It’s SPRING!!! 🌸🌸🌸

Every so often I receive a request for a card for intensely difficult life events. In this case a mom lost her young daughter, and a friend of hers wanted to send her… something. I was equal parts enraged at the universe and filled with tenderness for this family as the words came together. Here it is, with hope that no one else will ever need it.

It’s such a treat hearing tender pouring out of human beings at my table. Tears too, followed up with big hugs. There’s just so much love out there! And it was endlessly thrilling to watch the exact right pleasant thought get chosen by its person: ‘Picking Wildflowers’ went to a pair of besties who’d known each other for eight years and did just that together last year. ‘The Pleasant Bustle of a Community’ went to a local community champion, and on it went like that all day. It was magic.

Here are the cards we submitted! So the way it works for the Louie Awards Writer of the Year category, is to submit a body of work so the judges (in eight locations around the US) can get a feel for your writing in multiple iterations. The winner will be announced in July!

Greeting cards are a vehicle to express sentiment, and to articulate emotions and feelings. To be considered a finalist for the Writer of the Year is a huge compliment: the idea that we’re being recognized for voicing human emotions is such a tender thing—we’re so honoured and flattered.

The Louies have been hosted by the Greeting Card Association since 1988, and are named after Louis Prang, the lithographer credited with the birth of the U.S. Christmas card in the 1870s. See more !
