June is Hernia Awareness month, and our June calendar image just so happens to feature a still from our ventral hernia surgery animation! Hernias occur when an organ bulges through a gap in muscle or connective tissue. Cutting-edge robot surgical instruments, such as the one shown here, are being used to improve patient outcomes in many surgeries. Here a surgical mesh is sutured to the peritoneum, closing a ventral hernia hole.
May is Vision Health Month 👁️ Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a leading cause of vision loss in older adults. Photobiomodulation (PBM) may help. PBM is a non-invasive light therapy used to support retinal health and improve vision by stimulating the mitochondria of affected retinal cells.
For Skin Cancer Awareness Month this May, we're highlighting the BRAF gene mutation, which can cause uncontrolled cancer growth and is found in around 50% of melanoma cases. Abnormal BRAF has become a key target for therapies aiming to stop the progression of some cancers. 🎯

Our May AXS Studio calendar image depicts an interactive MOA experience that allows viewers to navigate a 3D bone marrow microenvironment impacted by multiple myeloma. By reimagining a complex pathology as a dynamic and interactive landscape, we gave HCPs a new way to learn about an innovative cancer immunotherapy platform. From injection to impact—how do nanoparticles actually reach a tumour inside the body? The Integrated Nanotechnology and Biomedical Sciences (INBS) Laboratory answered this question through ground-breaking research that challenges the widely accepted theory of drug delivery to tumours: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41565-025-01877-5. Their findings have important implications for the future of cancer treatment. AXS Studio created an award-winning animation visualizing the INBS Active Transport and Retention (ATR) principle: https://axs3d.com/portfolio-item/scientific-animation-nanoparticles-in-cancer-axs-studio/
Around one million babies are born worldwide with a hereditary disease each year. AXS Studio created 3D scientific animations for Gene Doctors, a PBS documentary that dives into the stories of patients, their families, and the scientists trying to save them. Produced by HHMI Tangled Bank Studios (HHMI Tangled Bank Studios) Learn more here: https://www.tangledbankstudios.org/our-films/gene-doctors
