4 Days. 100 Boys. 140 Lunches Served. ๐๐
What an incredible week hosting our 8th annual lunch cooking workshop with the Grade 7 students from Crescent boys private school.
Throughout the week, women from our food business program led fun, interactive cooking demonstrations and guided the boys through hands on preparation at each table. Together they cooked, shared stories, and learned about newcomers, entrepreneurship, and the power of community.
After lunch, the boys gathered in teams for a reflection exercise, discussing, drawing and presenting what the experience meant to them. One student summed it up beautifully: โUnity Creates Community.โ We could not have said it better ourselves ๐
On the menu:
โข Appetizer: Indian hummus spinach rolled paranthas
โข Salad: Taiwanese cucumber and grape tomato salad
โข Main: Kofta meatball curry with side parantha
โข Dessert: Turkish Green Cake and assorted cookies
โข Drink: Nigerian sorrel beverage
As we celebrate International Womenโs Day today ๐บ we are especially proud to highlight the newcomer women who led this experience. Through food, leadership, and entrepreneurship, they continue to inspire the next generation and strengthen the communities we share. Thank you for the great work!!

Reunited, and it feels so good ๐ต๐ถ๐ผ๐ค
We haven't seen some of these women for a long time, and it was so beautiful to come together celebrating in this setting 's 50th anniversary on the new Flavours Demo stage.
On Sunday's scheduled event, we shared something simple but deeply meaningful- the cookies that carry our stories. Each of our past Newcomer Kitchen students has a favourite cookie that connects them to home, to family, and to the journey that brought them to Canada.
These are not just recipes- theyโre memories, courage, and community, baked into each womanโs story. We were there to celebrate their voices, their cultures, and the ways food helps us belong. Our storytellers were amazing, as they shared their cookie, their journey, and the part Newcomer Kitchen has played in their new beginnings.
Be part of the great Canadian cookie exchange and let's share cookie conversations and our favourite treats forward with each other!
Thank you to all our volunteers, students and staff for baking up their favourite cookies, for presenting and helping to run a smooth event ๐
