The Bridge Initiative serves as the career development hub for the Rotman community by connecting you to the most practical career resources.
Our mission is to raise the hiring rate of the UofT student population by educating students on job oriented skills, offer opportunities for networking and broaden students’ perspectives on potential career paths. Our goal for the 2017-2018 year is to host several job/industry specific workshops along with events to help students find more about potential career paths. There is a gap in arts and science between theory and practice. We hope to bridge that gap (pun intended).

Hey everyone! Warm wishes for the new year and welcome back to school! After a successful first event in the fall, UofT Bridge has more exciting events to offer you during the second semester. The first of which is an exclusive opportunity for a handful of students to visit the offices of the Canadian based e-commerce firm Shopify.
Their Toronto team has generously agreed to open their doors to a few students interested in their business and industry to discover the life of a Shopify employee. The tour will be led by an Android POS developer, and will give a chance for students to ask questions and network during the visit.
You may register with us through our Facebook inbox. Considering the opportunity and the few spots available, we ask you to leave a few words on why this visit/firm interests you. To make sure the tour is interactive between students and the employee, we will attribute spots to people who seem the most interested! The visit will take place at the Shopify offices, on January 11th at 1pm~2pm.

Roles hired for PEY ranged from Accounting, Finance, Consulting, to Marketing and others. The average salary for Rotman Commerce PEY interns last year were $49,868, with the highest paying role earning $70,000 for their year away from school.

We are excited to unveil the guest panelists at Discover PEY. Check out who’s going to be sharing their story with you on Nov 29 — and we are still confirming more guest speakers.
We have alum and students who progressed from Rotman Commerce to the big 5, big 4, and big 3s of the world. We also have folks who took the same degree to a more unconventional path. Among our panelists, some went into entrepreneurship, some founded Rotman’s Liquid Assets, some started VC-backed ventures, many pursued arts, and a few are trying to launch a satellite.
All of them are coming together on Nov 29 to share with you their career stories. They were once in your shoes before, come learn how they — many with the help of the PEY program — came from where you are today, to where they are today.

Shawn Wu (PEY Alumnus Response):
“I had friends who worked 12 months in the same company, loved it, and got hired back for full-time. One friend was at Kraft Heinz after the Buffett merger, all managers were out, so he effectively worked in a manager role as a PEY intern. Now he’s chilling with his full time offer for the final year.
I chose to rotate among 3 different positions during the 12 month PEY term. I spent the first 8 months at RBC’s Tech team rotating between 2 Co-op positions, which led to my last 4 months at MaRS Venture Services serving startups.
Never was a day boring in my 12 months of working. Within each role there were multiple projects, and just when my learning curve plateaus in one role a new challenge would arise from another role. Having spent 1 year in industry was also a critical factor that helped me landed a full-time offer at Bain & Company. So in short, it was a fun and very rewarding time!"
