New Tax Relief for Ontario Homebuyers

Starting April 1, 2026, the cost of a new home in Ontario could drop by a maximum of $130,000 as the 13 per cent HST and GST are eliminated for new builds worth up to $1 million. For those looking between $1 million and $1.5 million, the savings remain capped at that $130,000 mark, while homes valued at $1.85 million or above will see a tax reduction of $24,000. This one-year measure is designed to "catalyze" the market, with the federal government anticipating an additional 8,000 housing starts and a significant boost to our provincial GDP.
