On this day in 1993, researchers made a groundbreaking discovery—the CAG repeat mutation that causes Huntington disease.

This milestone was made possible by the dedication of the US/Venezuela Huntington’s Disease Collaborative Research Group, led by Nancy Wexler. Through the generosity of families in Lake Maracaibo and the commitment of scientists worldwide, the HD gene was identified, paving the way for advancements in research and care.

Today, 32 years later, we reflect on how far we've come and continue pushing toward a future free of HD.
