Today on the blog… I talk about complimenting a child’s art work, crafts and creations using descriptive statements.
Let’s go beyond the easy compliments, like “great job”, “nice work”, and “that looks cool”. It can make such a difference in how the child feels.
Head over to the blog (link in bio) to check out my suggestions of meaningful comments to make when a child shows you their masterpiece.

⭐️ When families are happy, so am I!
Thank you to this wonderful family of four for their kind words. Working with you is a privilege!

Today is a great day to show appreciation for the child care providers and early childhood educators in your lives!
As an RECE, I can say this is one of the most rewarding jobs out there and I am so grateful I get to work with wonderful parents and children each day.
Tag a child care provider or early childhood educator in the comments and send them some love!

Sending some good thoughts and love out there to everyone!
No matter what your day looks like, I hope it ends on a good note for you. When you find yourself ruminating about a decision you made, something someone said to you, or even something from the past, stop yourself (you can even whisper “stop” to yourself”) and take a mental step back. Take some deep breaths and try to keep your mind busy by doing something different than what you were doing when the rumination started.
I know lots of parents and teachers end of feeling quite a bit of guilt if they phrase something the wrong way, or upset a child unintentionally. This might even lead to self doubt and wondering if you’re doing a good job. Just remember, all sorts of bumps comes up, and we are all capable of handling them in our own way. Keep taking one step in front of the other; just keep moving.

Today, and every day, we need to learn, listen, and strive for better. Truth and Reconciliation day is only one day of the year, and these efforts should be made all year long. We have a very long way to go.
Indigenous peoples, children, creators deserve to be heard and seen. Take your time today and every day to be present and really learn.
To those who have been personally affected by the historical treatment of indigenous individuals in our country, you are in my thoughts, and not just today; I see you and I’m here to listen.
Drop some names of Indigenous creators in the comments 🧡

It’s that day again, folks- Friday! It’s the end of another great week. For some, this is your child’s second week at school, for some this is the end of the first week. How did it go? There can be highs and lows during this time as it’s quite the adjustment for all.
Whether your plans are to keep busy or keep chill this weekend, I hope you have a wonderful couple of days. All the best to you and yours!

September is a busy month! It can be a huge transition for all during back-to-school time.
Take this month week by week, or even day by day if this works better for you, and be kind to yourself; recognize this is an adjustment for you too (even teachers need the first month to adjust to their new students and getting back into the school-year routine). It can be a tiring month, and an exciting one too!
How was your child’s first week back at school? 👦 📚 🧸

The summer months have come and gone (wow, that was fast!)
Hello September!
For many people, September symbolizes the return of fall, school and pumpkin everything, but it can also bring up some anxiety for both kids and parents as it’s a transition.
Transitions can be difficult for all of us. You may see your child have trouble transitioning from one activity to another, or you yourself may have trouble transitioning back into a busy school-year routine. We’ve all been there! Take a moment and remind yourself that you’ve done this before, and you’ll get into the groove of things once the ball starts rolling. Your kids will also adjust and get into their own routine and before you know it, everyone will feel more settled.

One of the reasons I started supporting parents as well as children is because, and this is my favourite phrase: children do not come with instructions. Every parent is just doing the best they can, and there is no one-size-fits-all way of doing things; every parent, child, and family is different.
When I was working as a preschool teacher, I would have great conversations with parents at drop-off and pick-up, and got asked lots of questions. It was wonderful to have parents come back to me and tell me that what I suggested to them worked.
Parents, I know you can be hard on yourselves and you're working hard to ensure your child is doing well. Every day your best may look a little different- that is a-okay! Keep doing what you're doing, and always reach out for help when you feel like you need it.

Your parenting journey is uniquely yours. Comparing yourself to other parents is harmful to your own confidence as a parent.
Remember, you are doing the best with the skills you have, and everyone is different so no two parents are going to do things in the exact same way.
Focus on your own growth as a Mom or Dad, and prioritize what YOU feel to be important.
