If the sound of a swish was the key

People don’t know what it is like to have a dream
they think it’s just full of loose promises and false hope
they won’t see you till you are at the top
and ignore who’s at the bottom
so all I can do is grind from autumn to next autumn
run from column to column
to make my dreams become real and not be remembered as one of the fallen

Life always handed me things that weren’t always great
absent parents, pent up anger, the words “grow up” tattoo on my face
Life was rough, school was tough, all i needed was an escape

Life hit me with so many surprises, especially from a young age
I was discussing bills and mortgage, so me and my caregivers would be on the same page

I did what I had to do to do
for the life, I didn’t ask to be brought into
I need a great escape

I did things, legal and illegal
lies and deception I gave to the people
I need a way to feel me again
do I even know who that is? I had to mature by the age of 10

and that’s when everything changed
I got a court order
or order from the court
to bear my soul on the floor, treat this as my last resort
to find me again, through the love of a sport
This is my one escape from the life of; holding down the fort

Damn, what are the rules?
shoot but don’t let them get a shot
dribble, pivot, but don’t let them get a shot
pass, give em’ an ally but don’t let them shoot
the first quarter is over, I defensively strategize my next route

Next quarter
My next summons via court order
I feel like I belong
I get to know the other four soldiers
with the same mission as mine
don’t let em shoot, pick and roll give our opponents some ICE
this is not just a battlefield, but an escape from life…
Oh wouldn’t that be nice

I love the thrill, we up by ten
I love the rush, I stay up past ten
practicing drills and studying plays
this became my life in a matter of days
