New Statistics Canada data confirms what a lot of young Canadians already feel.
Millennials are not just “behind” because of lifestyle choices. They entered a completely different housing market.
Compared to Baby Boomers and Gen X at the same age, Millennials are more likely to live with their parents, less likely to own a home, less likely to be married with children, and even when they do buy, they are less likely to own a single-detached house.
In Toronto, the numbers are even more extreme. Almost half of Millennials aged 25 to 29 were living with their parents in 2021.
The takeaway is simple: don’t compare your buying journey to your parents’ generation. The market has changed, and your strategy needs to change with it.
