If you own a home or are trying to buy real estate in Canada, you need to watch this immediately. The Bank of Canada’s 2026 Financial Stability Report has officially mapped out the upcoming mortgage renewal wave and things are getting tight. While the overall banking system remains resilient, the report highlights that the last remaining wave of 5-year fixed mortgages taken out during the pandemic are about to renew. Homeowners are facing an average payment increase of 15%. With home prices already down 20% from their 2022 peak, thousands of Canadians (especially in Toronto and Vancouver condos) are running out of equity buffers to refinance. Don’t get caught off guard by the changing financial system.
