5 Tips on How To Coparent With a Narcissist

1. Set clear boundaries: Narcissists often try to control and manipulate others, so it is important to set clear boundaries and communicate them firmly. This can include setting limits on communication, agreeing on a shared parenting schedule, and establishing rules for decision-making.

2. Focus on the children: The most important thing is the well-being of the children, so try to keep the focus on their needs and not on the narcissist's behavior. This may mean putting aside your own feelings and frustrations in order to make decisions that are in the best interest of the children.

3. Communicate in writing: Narcissists can be skilled at twisting words and denying reality, so it is important to communicate in writing as much as possible. This can include keeping a journal of important events, sending emails or texts to document important decisions or agreements, and keeping records of any court orders or agreements.

4. Seek support: Coparenting with a narcissist can be emotionally draining, so it is important to seek support from friends, family, or a therapist. This can help you process your feelings, find ways to cope with the narcissist's behavior, and develop strategies for dealing with difficult situations.

5. Consider mediation: If the situation becomes unmanageable, consider seeking mediation to help you work through conflicts and establish a more effective coparenting relationship. An Equivorce Certified Mediator can help you both communicate more effectively and find mutually acceptable solutions.

Keep in mind that co-parenting with a narcissist can be extremely difficult and it is not possible to change the personality of the other parent. It's important to have realistic expectations and to take care of yourself emotionally and mentally during this process.
