Please help us support the safety of refugees by sending an email through the 27,000 for 2027 campaign (link below).

Canada's refugee resettlement targets were drastically reduced. Many refugees now face wait times of 4+ years for their applications to be processed and remain trapped in dangerous situations abroad while communities here in Canada wait, ready to welcome them.

Please join us in asking the Government of Canada to commit to welcoming at least 27,000 Privately Sponsored Refugees in 2027.

Increasing refugee arrivals will help people reach safety sooner.

We're welcoming applications from passionate individuals wanting to create a lasting impact in refugee sponsorship.

We're honored to announce that Laurie-Beth Page has received the inaugural Ian McBride Humanitarian Award! πŸ†

For over 45 years, Laurie-Beth has been a beacon of hope for refugees in Toronto. Since founding the refugee support committee at Islington United Church in the late 1970s to welcome East Asian refugees who arrived by boat in Canada, she has helped more than 100 newcomers from countries including Vietnam, Eritrea, Colombia, and Iran successfully integrate into their new community.

The presentation took place yesterday, Feb. 1, attended by refugee newcomers, committee members past and present, Laurie-Beth's family, and community members.

This award honors both Laurie-Beth's incredible dedication and the legacy of Ian McBride, whose tireless work shaped the foundation of private refugee sponsorship in Canada.

Congratulations, Laurie-Beth! Your compassion and commitment inspire us all.

In this season of hope and togetherness, we remember that home is more than a place - it’s a feeling of safety, love, and belonging.

For millions of refugees around the globe, we hope that they find that sense of home soon.

Happy Holidays!

Imagine fleeing to another country because of war in your own and not being able to go outside for fear of being detained and deported. Imagine making it to Canada after a grueling journey but having to leave your ageing mother behind, alone in a foreign country. Imagine being separated from your children for years, constantly fearing for their safety.

In over 30 years of its existence, AURA has helped hundreds of families in situations like these find safety and stability in Canada. We work with sponsors, refugees, relatives, and church groups to give each case the attention it deserves and ensure newcomers have the support they need as they settle into their new homes.

In 2025, AURA supported more than 365 refugees through various stages of their journeys to Canada. In 2026, we are committed to submitting new applications to begin that journey with people who need a safe place to live. We believe refugees are an important part of Canada and should have a place in our society.

Our work is made possible because of your generosity. Please consider donating to help us continue our work in 2026.
