Are you celebrating Earth Day today? 🌳
I started my company to focus on sustainable events because of the huge amount of waste and garbage created at events. This worsened during the pandemic when everything needing an extra layer of protection and was individually wrapped or packaged in plastic.
Over the past few years, the industry has improved. Many are starting to recognize and acknowledge that we as an industry, need to do better and fulfill our part for the environment. Not all clients are on board, though, and greenwashing is still rampant, even among vendors and suppliers. So what can we do? 🤷♀️
✨We can focus on ONE. THING. AT. A. TIME.
It’s an uphill battle to convince others that this is important. So I ask you to choose one thing to focus on this year and make that one thing count for every single event you plan.
For us at WLA Events, we focused on serviceware that was either compostable or required nothing at all! We chose to work with vendors who aligned with our values, serving fruit juice out of its own shell, cookie cups that did not require holders, edible helium balloons served on Pocky sticks; And when we couldn’t do that, we sourced compostable cups for hot drinks, sugarcane and bamboo bowls, compostable treat bags - the list goes on!
When we serve thousands of people per event, every little bit adds up.
So let’s hold each other accountable: What is your “one thing to focus on” this year? 🌏

Last week, we had an absolutely amazing time putting on a Spain-themed 🇪🇸 tenant appreciation event for several prominent financial district buildings in downtown Toronto!
✨The atmosphere was vibrant and full of life, with colourful decorations and lively flamenco music setting the perfect backdrop. Attendees were treated to a feast of traditional Spanish cuisine, featuring delicious tapas, Spanish churros, and refreshing sangria. The highlight of the event was a stunning flamenco dance performance that captivated everyone with its passion and energy. 💃💃
🍹Guests mingled and networked, enjoying the opportunity to connect in a relaxed and festive environment. It was a wonderful way to show appreciation for our client’s valued tenants and strengthen their community.
The event was a resounding success, leaving everyone with fond memories and a greater sense of camaraderie. We’re already looking forward to planning their next themed gathering and continuing to celebrate the diverse cultures that enrich our city.
We couldn’t have done this without any of our industry friends - thank you to all the fabulous vendors who did their part to bring our vision to life! Viva QuadReal’s La Gran Fiesta!! 🪭

✨NOT MY WEDDING OR CLIENT✨
BUT - I had the pleasure of assisting my industry friends at .weddings and .floralstudio with setting up the beautiful centerpieces for this wedding, and I truly enjoyed working with the .team!
Having spent over ten years as a venue manager, I’ve had the opportunity to work alongside various vendors and planners, admiring their unique planning styles and aesthetics. Now that I’m leading my own company, I can draw on that experience to shape how I want to operate my business.
The most valuable piece of advice I can share is the importance of collaboration and learning from each other, rather than viewing one another as competitors. I have great respect for those who have been in the industry longer than I have, and I genuinely enjoy witnessing them in their element! It’s inspiring to see how others approach their work!
Kim and her team are an incredible group, and I am grateful they welcomed me into their circle without concern of competition. We can all support one another when needed.
Let’s work together to change the perception that our industry is cut-throat.

Happy Earth Day 2025! 🌎
There are so many things our industry can do to limit the enormous amount of waste events produce, but the one item I tell all my clients to do is to make sure they are not using floral foam in their floral designs. 🌷This is such an easy ask, and many florists are now recognizing the harm floral foam does to the environment. It also pushes their creativity to think of alternatives and out-of-the-box ideas.
If there is one thing I ask you to do, be it a vendor, a planner, a client - please make it a priority to not use floral foam for the rest of the year! 🙏

Together with , we are organizing our first market of the year on June 4th and 5th at two prominent downtown locations: Southcore Financial Centre (across from Union Station and Scotia Arena), and .court Courtyard at 199 Bay Street.
This market requires NO VENDOR FEE! Our purpose is to bring talented local businesses to the heart of the financial district so tenants have a way to learn about your company and to shop directly from you.

It took me a moment before sharing this message. I wanted to avoid coming off as an opportunist amid the devastating wildfires that swept through California earlier this year. Yet, this message holds profound significance for both myself and my company—our ongoing commitment to healing the Earth.
With that in mind, this had to be my first post of the year. So, here we are on the first day of Spring, excited to share the number of trees we planted last year thanks to all the wonderful people and events we participated in!
Here’s a quick recap:
🌳2021: One year post-launch, we planted 75 trees.
🌳2022: 40 trees were nurtured into existence.
🌳2023: 100 trees took root.
🌳2024: A staggering 1,070 trees blossomed!
1,070 TREES PLANTED!!! What an amazing year it was!
As forests are being depleted globally due to climate change and global warming, I feel incredibly grateful for what my small company has accomplished - planting over 1,285 trees in the past four years. While it may not be enough to reverse the damage we’ve caused, every tree matters. Every tree makes a difference. 💚
A heartfelt thank you to everyone I collaborated with in 2024; your support and partnership made this milestone possible. WLA Events may be a small team, but we are filled with mighty aspirations, eager for the adventures that await us in 2025 as we continue to grow our ever-expanding forest!
If I could ask one thing of you today, it would be to take a pledge and identify one change you can embrace to help cultivate a brighter planet for the generations yet to come. 🙏

Yesterday I attended my second in-person industry event hosted by since the pandemic and it felt so good to be with people who share the same passion as me. It reminded me of why I do what I do; People are meant to connect over good food and drinks, to bond through laughter, and to share experiences through stories. This is why I love being in events and hospitality.
I had an opportunity to get a poem written on the spot by the amazing Cathy Thorne of ! I rambled on about my thoughts at the time: my kids, their future, why I do what I do, and she wrote this incredible poem that further cemented my purpose in life and why sustainability is important to me. Thank you, Cathy, for capturing my thoughts on paper in such a simple yet eloquent way.

A few days ago I mentioned that Today’s Bride shared our styled shoot - well, this is the money shot!
I knew I wanted to get a photo of the girls in a field lying down, top down shot, but Olive Studio just nailed it with her artistic grace. I couldn’t have envisioned it any more beautiful than how she captured it. 👏 April!
