Initials Card made in my Design and Layout course.

I created this poster design in my Graphic Communications Processes course. All of the projects in this course explore concept and design, premedia, printing, and binding and finishing. We were challenged to only use two-colours to create a logo and poster for the atheletics team.

Toronto Metropolitan University Mock Seal Design

Unity, Landscape, and Creativity. Those were the three words I chose to integrate into the seal to represent Toronto Metropolitan University. Since our campus is located in one of the most diverse and connected cities in the world, I wanted to incorporate an identifiable symbol - the Toronto skyline.

After participating in many protests, and seeing the power of community and unity, I knew I wanted to include a symbol of activism, solidarity, and empowerment. This is represented by the raised fist - which speaks to the regrowth of the school following the name change.

The road is the last element I included which alludes to the streets of downtown and is a metaphor for TMU being on the road leading to change. The aim of my design is for it to represent the strength and unity of the students, the diversity and density of the city, and the creativity of the school community.

The aim of the “unity” print is to highlight the beauty of the unique bond women have with nature. Ecofeminism is the idea that women and the earth are interconnected in a multiplicity of ways. There are many similarities between the way our patriarchal society interacts with women and nature, and instead of destroying and discriminating, we should be recognizing and respecting.

“roots” illustration

This black and white illustration highlights the concept of hair being at the root of many cultures. Hair has the power to grow connections and create bonds between generations. I incorporated tree roots in this design as they play a similar role in fostering growth, representing strength and communicating complex ideas. 

In many BIPOC communities, hair is not only a form of self-expression, but it can also be sculpted to communicate meaning. My hope for this piece is to create positive messaging around all hair types and celebrate the power that comes from growing roots.
