Chef Patrick applies a deft touch to thoughtfully sourced ingredients, accenting and elevating flavors found in nature. The kitchen, centered around a wood-fired grill, prepares dishes intended to delight, sustain and nourish. A space to cultivate warmth, Alder invites neighbors and travelers to share in the pleasures that give life meaning. It’s about fire, not fireworks.

Chef Patrick Kriss opened his critically acclaimed flagship restaurant, Alo, in 2015, soon followed by Aloette and Alobar. Now, he joins us at the helm of Alder, the newest addition to his renowned family of restaurants. The Toronto native and owner of Alo Food Group began his culinary career in his hometown prior to working in both New York and France. Known for his imaginative fare and seasonal sensibility, Chef Patrick draws on the straightforward yet effective preparation methods of smoke and flame to enhance fresh ingredients.

Welcome to Alder. Designed in partnership with award-winning firm Shim-Sutcliffe Architects, Alder’s mood and material palette reflect the elemental nature of the food prepared within. Sunken into the earth, the restaurant’s design is artfully influenced by the kitchen’s wood-burning oven and grill, with nods to the simple and functional. Featuring laid-in brick flooring, bush-hammered concrete walls and a copper bar, Alder’s oversize windows paint shadows and sunlight across our space. It is a warm and protected place to be, like just the right distance from a bonfire.
