I'm' passionate about dogs and have worked with dog for the last 2 decades, and I think training the humans is the best way to help dogs integrate into our lives the best.
I would validate the growl first. Training it to not bark, is changing the way dogs assist us in life. We want the growl. Its a warning. Is the dog growling at a human? Perhaps it's sensing negative energy. Good to be prepared. No? Is it growling at something in the dark? Hmm... might be good, that! Is it growling at a strange dog? Did you read the body language of that dog and youre convinced there is mo need for a warning? Is the growl directed towards a child? Immediate correction. This 'LEAVE IT' training is taking the best qualities in a dog and squashing them. JMHO Good training advice though.
