This is great. I was reading about how all dogs are reward based able learners, you just need to know them, and what they like to succeed.
πΎ What if the thing your dog is obsessed with is actually your biggest training asset?
That's the Premack Principle in a nutshell β and once it clicks, it changes how you see the whole environment around you.
Here's the concept: behaviour that your dog finds highly rewarding can be used to reinforce behaviour they find less rewarding. You're not fighting against what they want. You're using it.
Grandma's Rule puts it best:
π₯¦ Do the less fun thing first β earn the more fun thing.
In practice it looks like this:
π£ Dog rockets back to you on recall β gets released straight back into the game
πͺ Dog waits calmly at the door β the door opens
ποΈ Dog checks in with eye contact on a walk β gets to go investigate that smell
No food needed. The real world becomes your treat pouch.
This is one of those concepts that sounds simple but has a huge ripple effect on your dog's impulse control and their relationship with you β so I made a full video breaking it all down:

We just helped a rescue go from reactive to relaxed β and weβre pretty proud. πΎ After assessing the triggers, I built a personalized, crateβfree plan focused on pack dynamics, owner's calm coaching and realβworld practice. Mimi (thatβs me) is certified in behaviour change, so I coach owners to read body language, set clear routines and reinforce calm habits. The result? Less reactivity, calmer walks, and a happier home β even for busy hikers and twoβjob households in Surrey. Want safer, more relaxed outings with your dog? Visit https://wix.to/vkST1XS to learn how we can help. π

Great diagram. I should make some of these. Thanks!
ππ§ β οΈ Does your dog lunge, growl, snap β or shut down completely around other dogs or people?
Reactivity and aggression are among the most misunderstood behaviours in dogs.
And the most mishandled.
The truth is β your dog isn't "bad." They're communicating the only way they know how.
When you understand what's really driving the behaviour, everything changes.
You stop reacting.
You start responding.
And your dog finally starts to feel safe.
Understanding and Managing Dog Aggression covers the real science behind why dogs react the way they do β and gives you practical, compassionate, evidence-based protocols to help them.
You'll learn:
π Why trigger stacking causes dogs to suddenly explode
π How to handle resource guarding safely and effectively
π What leash reactivity is really about β and how to address it
π How pattern games build calm and focus in reactive dogs
π When behaviour medication can be part of a humane support plan
π How to choose the right trainer or behaviour professional
20 modules. Science-based. Compassionate. At your own pace.

What you eat affects how you learn and how you feel, so the quality of food we feed our dogs does affect their behaviour. If you are struggling with your dog, assess his or her food and ask yourself if it is cheaper to buy quality food for the dog, or spend a lot on stuff getting destroyed, including vet bills and expensive trainers. Some rules and good food and you should be good!
