Before the Words: Supporting Communication and Connection in the Preverbal Years

What does communication look like before language? This session helps educators understand and support the earliest forms of expression—crying, body movements, gestures, and shared attention. We’ll explore how to respond respectfully, encourage turn-taking, and foster rich emotional and social exchanges even before children begin speaking.

Yesterday, our team came together for a planning day on the unceded territories of the q̓ʷɑ:n̓ƛ̓ən̓ (Kwantlen), q̓ic̓əy̓ (Katzie), Máthxwi (Matsqui), and se’mya’me (Semiahmoo) First Nations.

We spent the morning engaging in thoughtful conversations and intentional planning, creating a roadmap to guide us through the year ahead. This was followed by an energetic afternoon of team building. We are thankful for these opportunities to gather as a team and found today to be inspiring and productive.

All three of our CCRR offices will be closed on Tuesday, June 9, as our team will be engaged in planning to best serve you in the coming year. We'll be back to regular hours on Wednesday!
