Before accepting a promotion or payroll arrangement solely to make a spouse eligible for a Spousal Open Work Permit, understand the risks.

IRCC does not assess applications based only on payroll records or job titles.

Officers may review:
β€’ Previous work history
β€’ Education and training
β€’ Experience relevant to the occupation
β€’ Actual job duties being performed
β€’ Whether the position is credible and consistent with the applicant’s background

I understand the pressure many families face, but immigration decisions should be based on genuine employment that aligns with your qualifications and experience.

A short-term immigration strategy can sometimes create long-term immigration challenges.

This is general information only and not legal advice. Every case is unique.

🚨 A LESSON FOR EVERY IMMIGRATION APPLICANT 🚨

Recently, the U.S. Department of State announced actions against birth tourism networks and individuals who used fraudulent information to obtain visas for the purpose of securing citizenship for their children.

While this news comes from the United States, there is a much bigger lesson here.

Governments today have access to more data, technology, and information-sharing tools than ever before.

They can analyze travel patterns.

They can review employment histories.

They can compare information across applications.

They can identify inconsistencies that may not have been obvious years ago.

The reality is simple:

⚠️ If something doesn’t make sense on paper, it will eventually attract attention.

This is why I always tell clients:

βœ… Be truthful.

βœ… Submit genuine documents.

βœ… Avoid shortcuts.

βœ… Stay away from unregulated agents and ghost consultants.

A refusal can often be overcome.

A finding of misrepresentation can have much more serious consequences.

Immigration is a long-term journey.

Protect your future by doing things the right way from the beginning.

The goal is not just to get an approval today.

The goal is to maintain your credibility for every future application.

🚨 IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR PNP APPLICANTS IN CANADA 🚨

If you have submitted your Permanent Residence application under a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) and are still waiting for your Acknowledgement of Receipt (AOR), this update may be very important for you.

Effective June 9, 2026, IRCC has introduced temporary measures allowing certain in-Canada applicants to use alternative proof of PR submission when applying for:

βœ… PNP Employer-Specific Work Permits (T13)

βœ… PNP Bridging Open Work Permits (A75)

βœ… Eligible Spousal Open Work Permits

Why is this important?

Many PNP applicants have been experiencing significant delays in receiving their AOR due to prolonged completeness checks. In some cases, work permits were expiring before the AOR was issued, creating uncertainty and risking interruptions to work authorization.

Under this temporary policy, IRCC may accept:

πŸ“Œ Proof of PR application submission through the online portal

AND

πŸ“Œ Proof of payment of PR application fees

instead of an AOR in certain situations.

This is welcome news for many nominees and their families who were caught in the gap between PR submission and AOR issuance.

However, applicants should remember:

⚠️ This is a temporary measure.

⚠️ It applies only to eligible in-Canada applications.

⚠️ It does not guarantee approval of either the work permit or the PR application.

⚠️ If the PR application is later returned as incomplete, there may be consequences for future work permit eligibility.

This temporary facilitation is currently expected to remain in effect until December 31, 2026.

If you are a PNP nominee and your work permit is expiring while you are still waiting for your AOR, it may be worthwhile to review your options carefully.

🚨 IMPORTANT WARNING FOR WORK PERMIT APPLICANTS 🚨

This is something I am seeing more and more often, and it concerns me.

Some individuals are being told that because they received a Work Authorization Letter showing a validity period of up to one year, they automatically have authorization to work for the entire year.

That is NOT how it works.

A Work Authorization Letter is generally issued while a work permit application is in process.

The key point many people miss is this:

⚠️ The authorization only remains valid until a decision is made on the application.

Once the application is approved, refused, withdrawn, or otherwise finalized, the authorization letter no longer provides authority to work.

Unfortunately, some people continue working after a refusal because they mistakenly believe the letter remains valid until the date printed on it.

This can create serious immigration issues.

Before relying on any immigration document, make sure you understand:

βœ… What it actually authorizes

βœ… When it becomes invalid

βœ… How a decision on your application affects your status

Immigration rules can be complicated, but misunderstanding them can have significant consequences.

My advice is simple:

Read every document carefully.

Ask questions.

And make sure you understand your status after every immigration decision.

A piece of paper does not create status if the law says otherwise.

Stay informed and protect your future.

βš–οΈ IRCC HAS UPDATED ITS HUMANITARIAN & COMPASSIONATE (H&C) GUIDANCE

Many people assume that H&C applications are approved simply because someone is facing hardship.

The reality is much more complex.

IRCC has updated guidance for officers assessing H&C requests involving:

βœ… Criminal inadmissibility

βœ… Medical inadmissibility

βœ… Family member inadmissibility

βœ… Financial inadmissibility

βœ… Statelessness considerations

βœ… Overseas H&C requests

What does this mean for applicants?

πŸ“Œ This is NOT a new H&C program.

πŸ“Œ This does NOT mean automatic approval.

πŸ“Œ It provides updated guidance to officers on how these factors should be assessed in H&C applications.

The most important takeaway is this:

H&C applications are highly fact-specific and every case is assessed on its own merits.

Strong supporting evidence, well-documented circumstances, and a carefully prepared submission can make a significant difference.

One of the biggest misconceptions I encounter is that an H&C application is simply a request for sympathy.

It is not.

A successful H&C application is built on credible evidence, compelling circumstances, and a clear explanation of why relief should be granted.

If you are considering an H&C application, it is important to understand both the strengths and potential challenges of your case before proceeding.

🏒 WHY SOME ENTREPRENEURS GET INVITED… AND OTHERS DON’T πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

One of the biggest misconceptions about the BC Entrepreneur Program is that having money automatically means you will receive an invitation.

That is simply not how the system works.

The BC Entrepreneur Program is a competitive points-based system.

Your score is determined by a combination of factors related to:

πŸ“Œ Your personal profile

βœ… Business ownership experience

βœ… Senior management experience

βœ… Net worth

βœ… Education

βœ… Language ability

And…

πŸ“Œ Your proposed business

βœ… Investment amount

βœ… Job creation

βœ… Business concept

βœ… Economic benefits to British Columbia

The reality is that two entrepreneurs can invest the same amount of money, yet one may receive an invitation while the other does not.

Why?

Because success is not determined by investment alone.

Your overall profile and the strength of your business proposal play a significant role in how competitive you are.

This is why proper planning before submitting a registration is critical.

A well-structured business concept and a strong profile can make a significant difference in a competitive draw.

If you are considering the BC Entrepreneur Program, make sure you understand how the points system works before investing your time and money.

🚨 IMMIGRATION AUTHORITIES ARE GETTING SMARTER

A recent announcement from the U.S. Department of State highlighted how authorities are increasingly using investigations, data analytics, document verification, and inter-agency cooperation to identify visa misuse and fraudulent schemes.

While the announcement relates to the United States, the message is universal.

Whether you are applying for a visitor visa, study permit, work permit, permanent residence, or citizenship, honesty and transparency matter.

Unfortunately, many applicants are still tempted by shortcuts:

❌ Fake employment letters

❌ Fake payroll arrangements

❌ False work experience claims

❌ Misleading visitor visa intentions

❌ Fraudulent educational documents

❌ Misrepresentation in immigration applications

What may seem like a shortcut today can lead to serious consequences tomorrow, including:

⚠️ Application refusals

⚠️ Findings of misrepresentation

⚠️ Multi-year bans

⚠️ Future immigration difficulties

The strongest immigration applications are not built on shortcuts. They are built on genuine qualifications, accurate information, and credible documentation.

My advice is simple:

βœ… Be truthful

βœ… Be transparent

βœ… Follow legitimate pathways

βœ… Build your future on a strong foundation

A successful immigration journey starts with credibility.
