Yesterday we had the pleasure of welcoming Chantelle de Jonge, MLA for Chestermere–Strathmore, to Braineer Academy Strathmore.

During her visit, we gave her a tour of our centre and shared more about our programs and the work we are doing to support families in the Strathmore community. Chantelle also took the time to ask thoughtful questions about our experience as a new childcare business in the area and what supports could help us continue to grow and serve local families.

Our preschool classroom children built a busy little airport! From check-in counters and runways to “Airport Canada” and cozy café stops, the children are exploring the world of travel through imaginative, hands-on play.

Two friends have grown especially close in a short time, working side by side as they build and create together. From hauling “boulders” to solving problems and bringing their ideas into the construction area, their teamwork and imagination have really shined.

This week, our children will be diving into land transportation! They’ll be matching, reading, coloring, building, and exploring through a variety of hands-on activities designed to spark curiosity and learning.

Throughout the month, we’ll continue our transportation theme by exploring land, air, water, and community transportation, helping children understand how different vehicles help us move and stay connected within our community.

How long can a learning project last?

We often hear that young children have short attention spans, but what we see at Braineer Academy Strathmore tells a very different story. When a project is meaningful, playful, and engaging, children are more than happy to explore the same topic for weeks!

Throughout January, our children dove deep into an exciting Dinosaur Discovery Project. They learned the names of different dinosaurs, explored the difference between herbivores and carnivores, and even investigated how dinosaurs may have existed through volcanic eruptions.

Learning came alive through hands-on science experiments, stories, songs, art, and imaginative play. And of course, we wrapped up the month with a dinosaur-themed celebration party full of laughter, creativity, and roaring fun!🦖

The children took part in a dinosaur cut-and-paste activity focused on learning the concepts of small, medium, and large. They practiced comparing sizes, identifying differences, and placing each dinosaur into the correct category.

This hands-on activity also helped strengthen fine motor skills, such as cutting and gluing, while supporting early math and language development through size-related vocabulary.

Dino Feet with a Box (toddler)

We had so much fun creating dinosaur feet using tissue boxes! The children used green paint to decorate their boxes, exploring colour and creativity. Once the paint dries, they will slip their feet into the boxes and “stomp” around, engaging in imaginative play and movement.

Our little learners at Braineer Academy Strathmore have been exploring different countries and cultures through hands-on art and coloring activities. From maps to traditions, these moments help build curiosity, creativity, and early global awareness.😄
