We all get an ingrown hair once and a while so you know how painful and irritating they can be! Maybe you are one of the unlucky ones that are really prone to them.
Shavers are at more risk of getting ingrowns as the hair is stretched by the first blade and cut with the second, (through the thickest part of the hair shaft), and then it retracts back just below the surface. You now have a hair that is thick and blunt, trying to get through that tiny follicle opening.
Waxing often breaks hair. It also causes trauma to the opening of the hair follicle as the hair is removed against the direction of growth. This leads to scar tissue forming at the opening of the follicle, distorting the follicle, making it more difficult for the hair to exit.
Over the next few weeks I am going to talk a lot more about ingrowns, prevention, and treatment. Stay tuned!

Pre-Treatment: Things you can do before your Sugar Hair Removal treatment.
* Clients should come with skin as clean as possible.
* Men having the back should shower and wear a clean t-shirt to appointment.
* Brazilian clients should use facilities before to cleanse the area to be sugared. There is always moist wipes available in the treatment room.
* No working out, sunbathing, or tannin the day of treatment as the sweat harbors bacteria.
* No spray tanning or lotion the day of treatment.
Next information post will be entirely about post-treatment and what not to do after your Sugaring!

Shaving, waxing and even sugaring.....we all experience ingrowns occasionally. Some people are more prone to ingrowns than others.
Sometimes they turn into a little cyst with no exit for the hair. They become very inflamed, hard and extremely painful.
When this happens the worst thing to do is try to squeeze or dig it out. What you need to do is make a warm salt water solution and soak a wash cloth in it and apply to the cyst, several times a day for a few days. This will help draw it out and calm it down.
Prevention is the best strategy, and we will bring you more info in future posts.....

A few facts about Sugar!
Sugar can extract very short hairs:
The ball in hand method can extract hair that is only 1/16th to 1/8 inch long. This means that hair is more likely to be removed in the Anagen stage and can lead to more permanent results.
Sugar never dries: Wax must be removed immediately or it can dry on the skin. Leaving sugar on the skin helps it to pe*****te the follicle of the shortest hairs.
Sugar breaks fewer hairs: As the sugar molds onto the skin against the natural hair growth, it seeps into the follicle to help lubricate the hair shaft and bulb and facilitate hair removal. Because hair is removed in the natural direction of growth without stretching the hair backward and possibly breaking it, it removes the hair and root bulb intact.
Sugar is applied at room temperature: No risk of burning!

A few facts about Body Sugaring!
Sugar is 100% pure and natural:
Our sugar paste contains only sugar, water, and lemon juice. No chemical additives, resins or binding agents added which can cause allergic reactions or irritations.
Sugar only adheres to dead skin cells and hair:
It will not remove any live skin cells so it is much gentler than wax and any redness disappears significantly quicker. It provides a gentle exfoliation with the hair removal.
Sugar is more sanitary:
Sugar cannot harbor bacteria or encourage the growth of bacteria. Did you know that in world war 2 table sugar was used to pack wounds to help slow the growth of bacteria! There is no opportunity for cross contamination in the sugar room as the service is completed with the same ball of sugar. No sticks and no double dipping!
Water Soluble! Quick and easy cleanup with water.

After Sugar Hair Removal
Things to avoid for the first 24 hours after sugar hair removal:
· Perfumes
· Scented creams/lotions
· Deodorant if you had your underarms sugared
· Heat, such as baths/steam rooms
· Direct sunlight or tanning beds
· Perspiration. Let this be your excuse to skip going to the gym!
Exfoliation is the key to preventing ingrown hairs. Using a natural bristle body brush, exfoliating cloth or brush, or body scrub two to three times per week you’ll keep dead skin cells from trapping new hair growth under your skin.
The second step is to keep your skin healthy and moisturized. A good rule of thumb is, whenever your skin gets wet (after every shower or bath) moisturize with a natural lotion.
Slight irritation with redness and bumps is completely normal and should disappear within 24 hours.

Before Your Sugar Appointment
Sugar paste is safe for all skin types, even the most sensitive! Since the sugar never adheres to live skin cells, only the dead cells will be removed acting as a gentle exfoliation, which is why we ask that you do not exfoliate your skin the day before or day of your service.
It is important to show up to your appointment with skin that is clean of all lotions, oils and makeup. These can coat the skin and the hair and act as a barrier, making it difficult to remove the hair.
For best results hair should be approximately ¼ inch. If hair is longer it should be trimmed with an electric trimmer prior to arriving for your appointment. Can be trimmed at appointment.
