An historic Kentucky Derby! So many amazing stories were made. Best Derby since Secretariat won!

Kentucky Derby Day! In 1999, I happened to be at the Kentucky Derby for no other reason than I had competed at the Kentucky Rolex (as it was called then) and my horse trailer needed some work before I could go home so I had some time in my hands. Some of the other riders' grooms invited Wondar Lehman and I to watch the derby with them at the barns. After the Eventing season and running the big event, I was completely broke and had no money to be frivolous with. BUT, you can't go to the most famous horse race in the world and not put down a bet. So I borrowed $5 from Ruth and studied up the racing forms. I put the money on Real Quiet and Victory Gallop and unbelievably they came in 1st and 2nd! From a $5 bet, I won $735.00! It was gas money home! The Lord works in mysterious ways! 😁. I still have Real Quiet's portrait in my office, 🍀

Before heading back home. We spent spent little time in Lexington. A very cool little place!

Was a great weekend Defender Kentucky Three-Day Event. Found some friends along the way!

What a great weekend of Eventing. I did badly want Artist to go clear in the stadium jumping and win and Jessica Phoenix to also go clear and move into the top 5, but it was a thrilling event finish!

Thank you to Canada for confirming reinstatement of my Technical Delegate Level 2 status. I greatly enjoyed the TD (Wayne Quarles) and Course Design (Dylan Barry) clinics this year. Thanks also to TD, Jenny Franks, and organizers, Monica and Dale Warrener 's Eye Horse Trials and Ulrika Wikner Stables for letting me ride along and help at your events. It was a lot of fun and I look forward to starting work on Level 3!
