Understanding physiology is so important, then you can understand how an intervention can impact the cascade or flow of physiology.
Often women are surprised about how what seemed an insignificant choice changed the course of their enire birth because it altered the flow of physiology.
Prenatal sessions: individual, package, in person or virtual options available!

Being in birth work for over 13 years, I wasn't all that surprised by the level of intervention women are experiencing in pregnancy and birth based on the recent birth survey I am compiling. What I was interested to explore was how women felt about their experience and their choices. And did they feel like they were given balanced information to make informed decisions regarding the care and interventions they were consenting to.
In my opinion often women are sold on overstated benefits and understated risks to intervention.
in the recent birth survey 30.8% felt they were NOT given adequate information regarding benefits and risks to routine ultrasounds, despite the fact they had consented to multiple during their pregnancy! And to be honest I am very curious to see for those that did feel they received adequate information, would they really be able to define or recall a specific risk explained to them?

Birth Reflections is a 120 min session via Proton Meet, Zoom or FaceTime to process, reflect, connect the dots and integrate your birth experience.
With 1 out of 3 women describing their experience as traumatic, many are entering into Motherhood anxious, hyper vigilant, stressed and overwhelmed. Many feel they didn't even know what really happened to them.
On the contrary, some women feel ecstatic, empowered and want to share about their experience. To tap into that energy, integrate and continue to harness it into Motherhood.
No matter how wonderful or difficult your birth experience was, being witnessed and sharing your story is one of the most important parts in feeling whole postpartum.
Each session includes personalized discussion tailored to your specific circumstances, with follow-up resource links where relevant. If you have your medical records available for this session it can also be very helpful.

What breastfeeding support looks like in our postpartum sessions:
* nervous system regulation and co-regulation for mama & baby
* lymphatic movement (important for everyone, especially important in the early days and weeks after medication/intervention during the birth)
* nourishment and hydration including galactalogues
* homeopathic remedies, herbs and tincture for specific issues and on individual basis
* positions, latching, techniques to achieve your breastfeeding goals
* bodywork for mama and baby
*
Postpartum sessions 1.5- 2 hrs, virtual or in person options, individual or packages available. Regardless of your care provider, these are not clinical sessions but designed to fill the gaps of regulated maternity services.

My blog post today explores an important ethical principle that should underpin decisions in maternity care, but isn't often discussed.
The precautionary principle.
It once played an important role in health care, but its use seems to have been eroded as the culture of maternity care has changed.
In my blog post, I look at what the precautionary principle is, how it used to function, and what its erosion means for women, babies, and those who care for them.
