‼️Free RSV vaccinations for those Nova Scotians over the age of 75 here at Pharmacy First!
Previously, if someone in that age category wanted the vaccine, it would cost them around $300.
If you are over the age of 75, please consider getting the RSV vaccine that is being provided free of charge by the province of Nova Scotia. If you have a loved one over 75, especially those who have a history of chronic disease, heart disease, or any breathing conditions please encourage them to get the vaccine.
What is RSV? RSV is a respiratory virus that causes runny nose, cough, fever, headache, and fatigue. But in some individuals, particularly the elderly, it can quickly become serious leading to difficulty breathing, wheezing, lack of energy, poor appetite, and hospitalization.
📆 How do I make an appointment to get vaccinated?
Adults age 75 and older can book their vaccine online at http://novascotia.ca/vaccination or by calling 1-833-797-7772. If you have any trouble however, dont hesitate to call us at the Pharmacy (902-753-3784)
Keep in mind we anticipate Flu and Covid vaccinations will be available in mid October and it might be nice to get the RSV vaccine prior to these other important vaccinations.

How do I maintain a healthy blood pressure?
🍽️ Eat a healthy diet: Eat plenty of vegetables and fruits, low-fat milk products, whole grains, lean meats, fish, legumes (dried beans) and nuts.
🧂Limit salt intake: a general rule of thumb: buy products that are labelled with equal or less than 5% daily value sodium.
🏃Maintain a healthy lifestyle: Try to achieve a healthy weight, be active.
🧘Manage your stress levels: Find effective ways to cope with stress, dont hesitate to get some help.
🍷Limit your alcohol consumption: 2 drinks per day or less is best.
*However new cancer guidelines recommends no alcohol intake.
🚭Refrain from smoking: It’s hard to quit smoking, seek help if needed.
💊Take your blood pressure medication(s) if prescribed: Pills are a way to help your body fight high blood pressure.
These recommendations are taken from the new guidelines by Hypertension Canada. Most people’s target blood pressure should be below 130/80 which is even lower than the last guidelines. Staying under this target can reduce your risk of heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, heart failure, eye disease, and erectile dysfunction.
If you are worried about your blood pressure or would like to have it checked, we would be happy to help, stop by and have your blood pressure taken just like Amy!
Please note: we are closed today Monday Sept. 1st for Labour Day. Please do not hesitate to call the after hours line if you require emergency assistance while we are closed (902-301-6212).
