The CNC does a lot in this shop.

It does not do everything.

Our Production Supervisor is splitting this beam by hand because the job requires judgment, not just precision. Knowing which cut to make, how to read the grain, and where to position the saw.

CNC starts it. Craftsmen finish it.

A home we built in 2013 just hit the market at $2,350,000. Here’s what thirteen years did to it: nothing.

No settling. No shifting. Just thirteen years of Manitoba winters on a frame that hasn’t moved.

Most of a house is an expense the moment you move in. A timber frame isn’t. Build it once, and it holds the place up and the value with it.

Thirteen years of dividends, and the next owner inherits a frame that isn’t done paying yet.

Rain isn’t the problem.
Not planning for it is.
Mass timber gets wet during construction. That’s expected.
Panels sit on site, they get hit by weather, and that’s normal.
What separates a clean install from a staining and rework problem is whether the moisture plan existed before the first panel shipped.

A real mass timber team thinks about this upfront. End-grain sealing. Protective wrapping. Install sequencing that limits how long panels sit exposed. Drying allowances built into the schedule so wood reaches the right moisture content before the building gets closed in.

The crews that get surprised by weather are the ones who treated moisture as a site problem instead of a design and fabrication decision.

By then it’s already a change order.

At Cornerstone Timberframes, moisture management is part of the plan, not a reaction to the forecast.

If you’re spec’ing a mass timber project, ask your fabricator how they handle water before the panels arrive. The answer tells you a lot.

This year anyone who did not want to golf had the option to go to the spa instead. So here are some fun pictures from the spa!
