Early Saturday morning, Squamish Fire Rescue was dispatched to a vehicle submerged in water on Squamish Valley Road, with people trapped inside. Crews arrived to find the vehicle already partially submerged and continuing to sink, with four people and their dog unable to escape.
With frigid water temperatures and time working against them, the captain of D shift told his crew βgo!β They entered the water, rescued all four occupants and their dog, and had them in ambulances within 8 minutes!! This remarkably quick rescue is a direct result of our firefighters with specialized water rescue training. Two members worked quickly to bring everyone safely back to shore, where they were treated for hypothermia. Thankfully, all occupants are expected to make a full recovery after the βruffβ ride!
In emergencies like this, every second mattersβespecially in winter water conditions. Beyond their core training, firefighters are equipped with a wide range of rescue skills, including advanced water rescue, to provide life-saving interventions when it matters most.
Way to go SFR! ππΌ

Today Local 2874 honoured the 343 fallen FDNY Firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001.
Four of our brothers donned full gear and climbed 110 storeys in Alex Munro Fire Hall 1.
We will never forget the bravery and sacrifice of the first responders, civilians, and all those affected by the tragic events that day.
Today we climb together in remembrance and unity.
9/11 - we will never forget.
