It's garlic scape season and we'll have them available tomorrow at the Bulkley Valley Farmers' Market .
What is a scape? It is the "flower" of the garlic and if it's left to grow to maturity it will contain many tiny garlic cloves.
Some of the ways they can be used is in stirfries, soups and stews, pickled or made into relish or pesto.

Onions are starting to show some growth this year.

Perfect evening to spread compost tea on the garlic.

We really enjoy helping out by providing hamburgers and smokies at the finish for all of the participants and volunteers of the Tour de Smithers put on by this year there was record turnout of 217 participants between the short (42km) course and the long (85km) course!
Daniel doesn't ride as much as he used to, but was pretty pumped to win his catagory for the short course. Even if he was confused at first because he was beat by people more than half his age and he said " I didn't win, I was beat by three teenagers and one of them in the sprint"

The apple trees are blossoming, the haskaps have almost finished blossoming and berries have started to form and the garlic and onions are doing well.
We like how green things are in the spring and so do the cows.

I do like the look of freshly cultivated garlic. In the next couple of weeks our other areas will be dry enough for us to be able to start planting our onions and vegetables outdoors

It's always amazing how the snow only left this past weekend and the garlic is already poking through!

Snow continues to cover our fields and as it slowly melts we are busy with starting our seedlings. The onions are starting their second and even third leaves. We are also starting Asparagus to be ready a few years from now.
