Smithers Action Group Association is a non-profit society creating housing solutions for people facing homelessness, addictions and mental health issues.
The Smithers Action Group Association (SAGA) is a non-profit society working toward supportive housing solutions for some of our community's most vulnerable citizens. Established in 2012, SAGA is a volunteer run organization consisting of partnerships with social service, health, Wet'suwet'en First Nations organisations as well as other community groups in the Bulkley Valley. SAGA originated from
a collections of Smithers social services providers who formed a group in 2004 to discuss and work on issues relating to housing and homelessness. SAGA's long term project: Supportive Housing Initiative
SAGA is currently working to build a supportive living housing-complex in Smithers that will integrate long-term housing solutions with accessible, on-site support services. Staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, this initiative will provide individuals facing multiple barriers, such as homelessness, addiction issues, and compromised mental and physical health, with a welcoming home and community. The goal is to be flexible, responsive and creative in working with the tenants to create a welcoming community where tenants feel accepted and respected. Our current work: Smithers Homelessness Count
August 2014 – SAGA gained grant funding to carry out a Homelessness Count in Smithers. This information is much needed in order to secure funding for our supportive housing project. Key Dates: November 27th & 28th 2014 - SAGA is conducting a homelessness count in Smithers. We will be working with a number of partnerships in Smithers over a 24/hour period to identify how many people are currently homeless, as well as people who are at risk of becoming homeless.
