🚴🍦 HELMET SAFETY SUMMER INCENTIVE 🍦🚴

This summer, keep an eye out for members of Slave Lake EMS and Lesser Slave Regional Fire Service around town!
Children spotted wearing their helmets while riding around town may receive a special ticket for a FREE ice cream cone from Alimo’s Pizzeria! 🍦☀️
We want to encourage safe riding habits while making summer fun for the kids in our community. Wearing a helmet is not only smart — it’s the law, and it can save lives.

Did you know?⛑️ When properly worn, Helmets reduce head injuries by more than 40% and serious head injuries by 60%!!

Make sure your child wears a helmet for every ride — whether they’re biking, scootering, skateboarding, or rollerblading.
Thank you to Alimo’s Pizzeria for partnering with us to help promote child safety in our community! ❤️

Stay safe, have fun, and we hope to hand out lots of ice cream tickets this summer! 🚒🚑🍦

We know it is difficult, but its important to reflect on our history. 15 years ago in the evening of May 14, 2011, and into the day of May 15th, the fires that were burning near Popular Lane and Canyon Creek started to damage structures. By the time the fires had been extinguished it had become one of the worst fire loss events in Alberta's History.
What also happened was people came together, The Slave Lake Area became known for its ability to step up and in the years that followed were the first to offer help when other events started to happen.
We take this time to reflect, and to remember.

The 13th I went to the city to get newborn photos done of my 10-day-old baby, and my family was concerned that we were gonna get stuck in the city or hit fires on the way there.
We came back the afternoon of the 14th and we got stopped at the road going to the pulp mills because the fire had just gone over the highway and it was too hot for any vehicles to go, so we were there 2 hours, it was a hot day and my baby was crying and we were just parked on the road. We finally got to go back to town, and it seemed fine, everyone’s like “oh the fires will never get here, the wind’s blowing the other way.

"It’s fine… it’s fine."

Our hearts are with Fort McMurray and all of their residents today, 10 years since the massive wildfire took so much. As we look back on the Slave Lake 10 year anniversary and all of the emotions and memories it brought back for so many it was also an opportunity to see the true resiliency a community has when they band together. Our crews were in Fort Mac the morning it blew in, happy they could be there to assist and try to give back what so many people gave to us but also sad it was happening to another community just 5 years later.
