Tomorrow (Saturday, June 6th) will mark the 82nd anniversary of the Normandy invasion, a pivotal moment that signalled the beginning of the end of the Second World War. Among those who contributed to this historic day, and the overall operation, were several brave men and women from Norfolk County.

This picture, from the Waterford Museum’s military files, is of crew members from His Majesty’s Canadian Ship Blairmore, one of the minesweepers that cleared the way for the invasion fleet.

Norfolk’s own Petty Officer Omfrichuck is pictured (first on the left). While D-Day was a strategic success, the cost was profound. Allied forces suffered 4,414 casualties on the first day alone.

Seven lives from Norfolk were lost during the operation: Trp. William Feschuk (Rockford), Sgt. Harry Hamilton (Simcoe), Rfn Frank Holmes (Rockford), Sgn Thomas Hemsley (Waterford), Rfn James Stewart (Vittoria), Tpr. Ralph Kellner (Simcoe), and Pte. Louis Kay (Delhi).

Hey, Norfolk!👋 Norfolk County is undertaking a Development Charge Background Study. Development charges are fees collected from new development to help fund infrastructure required to support growth, including roads, water services and community facilities.

The County is hosting a 𝗣𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 for the development community and interested residents:

➡️ 𝗧𝘂𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟭𝟲, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 | 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

This session will include:
• An overview of development charges
• A summary of recent legislative changes
• Information on the current Development Charge By-law 2019-100
• An opportunity to ask questions

The study is in its early stages, so this first session will focus on housekeeping updates to the existing by-law.
