For those who are Globe and Mail subscribers, this is an excellent article on the potential issues with joint ownership of assets in estate planning.

If you have assets that are jointly owned with anyone other than your spouse, there may be unintended consequences upon your death. These can include additional tax, exposure to creditors, a fight amongst your heirs, etc. We can assess the risk of your current plan and recommend a comprehensive estate plan to reduce taxes and the potential for a fight amongst your beneficiaries when you're gone.
