Water levels and flow rates are rising! Water is to be released from the Gardiner Dam, and flow of the South Saskatchewan River is expected to rise significantly - the river will be higher and faster. Remember, even when a river appears calm it can still be dangerous.
What does this mean for you?
- Use caution in and around the water 🌊
- Use the upper Meewasin trails and keep back from the water's edge 🚲
- Keep children in arm's reach when near the river ☀
- Keep dogs on leash and out of the water 🐾
- Stay off the water 🛶
While many train rescues in and around water, keep yourself and others (including the rescuers!) safe by avoiding the river for the next while

We had a fantastic day yesterday out at the Saskatoon Public Schools Wâhkôhtowin School powwow. It was hot! With lots of ice, water, and sponges, we were able to help everyone stay cool, safe, and enjoying the day. Thanks so much for having us out!
PS: check out our new tent!

While it may have been snowing only 2 weeks ago, it's hot now! Saskatoon is under a Yellow Heat Warning for the next few days as temperatures are over 30. Take care of yourself and others during this first hot spell of the summer! Hydration, sun protection, and staying indoors are good ways to beat the heat, the Saskatoon Fire Department has the list of cool down locations in the city here 👇

With the weather changing, the fire risk across the province is quickly changing too! Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency has some information on the different levels of fire bans and wildfire risk and what they mean. Check it out below 👇 and check your municipality to see local fire ban information. Want to know more about the fire risk in your area? visit https://www.saskpublicsafety.ca/emergencies-and-response/active-incidents for maps and information on the fire risk across the province.

A big congratulations to our newest members 🎉🎓 A couple weeks ago we celebrated our newest recruits who recently completed over 60 hours of Basic Searcher training and are now full team members. How exciting to have so many new faces join our team! We're grateful for their dedication, perseverance, and hearts for this work. While not all new members were able to attend, we had a wonderful night celebrating with friends and family. Congratulations!

A huge thank you for a very generous donation that we recently received from the EcoFriendly West Fund through the The Victoria Foundation.
We’re incredibly grateful for their continued support of SSAR, not only through this contribution, but also through past partnerships focused on environmental stewardship, including riverbank cleanups along the Meewasin River Valley. Protecting our community and caring for the environment are values we proudly share, and we appreciate EcoFriendly West’s commitment to making a positive impact.
Support like this helps us continue providing critical search and rescue services, training, and community programs.
Thank you, EcoFriendly West, for helping us make a difference. We truly appreciate your generosity!

At the beginning of May, our newest members learned all about the Project Lifesaver International Headquarters program and how it works here in Saskatoon. From the how-it-works to the how-tos of using the technology, they put in the time and practiced their skills to become Electronic Search Specialists with the PLI program!
Recently SSAR team member Shelley spoke with media about how important this program is, and how we’ll hopefully see it in more places in the coming years.

Happy to help out our friends at Meewasin!
Big shoutout to the incredible team at Saskatoon Search and Rescue for stepping up in the Northeast Swale last week!
Following a recent incident that highlighted potential safety concerns in the area, their volunteers quickly mobilized to help dismantle and clean up a structure at the Rec Zone. Their response was thoughtful, thorough, and made an immediate difference in reducing risk and caring for this important natural space.
This is what community looks like. People showing up, working together, and taking action to protect the places we all cherish.
As we continue our clean-up campaign in the Valley, this kind of partnership and shared stewardship is more important than ever. Thank you to everyone who’s pitching in to keep the Valley clean, welcoming, and vibrant.

This week marks Missing Persons Week in Saskatchewan, a week to honour and remember all those that haven’t been found or returned home. There are several long term missing persons in the province and this week is to honour their memory and their families. Yesterday, May 5th marked Red Dress Day, honouring the disproportionate number of Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQ people that go missing.

Thank you for another successful Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival, Saskatoon! We're so grateful for the support from our community and getting the chance to see and talk to everyone at the festival. We're amazed by all of the generous donations that came in, the wonderful support of our sponsors, our venue The Broadway Theatre, our presenting sponsor Jeff’s Crestwear, and everyone that came out! Our team works hard on this event for several months each year and it is so rewarding when it all comes together.
