Rempel Filmscapes
A Video Production service (primarily weddings and event promotional projects) based out of Saskatoo Push the limits; take risks; create.
[In Operation from May 2017 - August 2021]
I've always loved films, but video really became a passion for me in 2010. While working at a Bible camp that summer, I was privy to the weekly highlight videos that they produced and I fell in love with the creative side of film. At first, I had inspirations of making Hollywood films someday, but as I've been learning and goofing around with cameras and

Rempel Filmscapes is coming to an end in August 2021.
__________
When I started my own company in late 2016, my main drive was to create a job for myself doing something that I actually enjoyed: film production. I didnβt know quite how far along the path to becoming a Hollywood DOP (Director of Photography) or Cinematographer I wished to go, but I knew that I had to start somewhere lest I lose the passion before too long. Even before Rempel Filmscapes, I had begun a small YouTube channel with my wife and a mutual friend in the hopes of stoking that fire and spurring me on to be more creative.
And so, mid-way through 2017, I was already on a roll with weddings and promotional videos and I was excited.
I soon realized that, while I loved running the business and getting to both manage the back end and create at the same time, I was likely not going to push myself as hard as I needed to make this a full-time, self-sustaining gig. And I was okay with that. I continued to work, and by mid-2019, I had a couple of years of real-world experience (along with a few dozen videos of varying content) that I was able to put on a resume, and that felt like it was worth it. And so in September of the same year, I applied to a job posting at a local photo and video production studio. I was still satisfied that, if all the work I had put into Rempel Filmscapes up until then was meant to be put away indefinitely, then it was worth the effort. So when I was finally full-time at my new job, I began the steps that led me to posting this.
Rempel Filmscapes was more than just a fun job that I created for myself in order to do something I loved, it was a job that literally provided for my family for a few years and I am grateful for it, for the lessons that running it taught me and for the experiences it allowed me. I like to think that I grew along with it.
And so here we are: (soon-to-be) nine weddings, three multi-episode study series and 38 promotional films, event highlights and internal company videos (some of the latter I wish you could see!) later.
Many thanks to those who mentored me, you who supported me, all who hired me and to God who provided overall. I love that I am moving on from this stage of my life in good standing and on my own terms.
The Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and LinkedIn pages will remain active as a catalogue of my time here and if you ever are in need of video services in the future, Iβll still be around β depending on your needs, you can find me on the team at www.mjand.co or www.studiodyxe.com .

No matter the way you look at it, this Christmas/New Year season is going to be different than most.
For families and friends, it might mean smaller festive gatherings, or staggered get-togethers over the course of the next couple months. For companies and organizations, it means no large-scale, year-end events, which means turning to video to record or stream their holiday greetings and wishes.
π π
However you plan to celebrate, be safe, even if you feel healthy - it's about thinking of others (more than yourself). And since that's what this season is all about, it should be good to practice what is preached.
Earlier this week, I tried my hand at filming/recording my brother playing a few musical pieces on his 5-octive marimba at home. Here is one of those videos, and my first attempt at specifically capturing the sound of an instrument for use in a video edit, as well as compositing multiple angles over multiple takes for a single video.
The music featured in this video is a piece titled "Strive To Be Happy", written by Ivan Trevino.

My littlest brother is a percussionist in his school band, and specifically takes lessons on the marimba outside of school to hone/broaden his skill. I recently shot a couple of videos of him playing on his 5-octave behemoth at home, as my parents wanted some kind of keepsake of his work ( - he graduates from Grade 12, tomorrow).
