Saskatchewan Economic Development Alliance
We are a member driven alliance dedicated to the economic prosperity of Saskatchewan. Together, we are creating Saskatchewan success stories.
Building economic capacity.
Why do Saskatchewan's urban and rural economies rise together?
Too often, we talk about rural and urban growth as though they are separate conversations. In reality, they are deeply interconnected.
Rural communities supply the resources, talent, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit that fuel economic activity across the province. Urban centres provide access to markets, services, investment, and specialized expertise. When one thrives, the other benefits.
In this latest Paths to Prosperity feature, we explore why building Saskatchewan's future requires a shared vision for growth, one that recognizes the critical role of both rural and urban communities in creating opportunity, resilience, and prosperity.
The strongest economies aren't built in isolation. They're built through connection, collaboration, and a commitment to growing together.
What opportunities do you see for stronger rural-urban partnerships in Saskatchewan?

What happens when we stop thinking of rural and urban communities as separate economies and start seeing them as part of the same engine?
In the latest Paths to Prosperity Podcast, host Crystal Froese sits down with Chris Brown to explore the powerful connections between rural and urban Saskatchewan. From workforce and supply chains to investment and innovation, thriving communities depend on one another more than many realize.
This conversation challenges us to move beyond "either/or" thinking and focus on how collaboration, shared prosperity, and regional partnerships can strengthen Saskatchewan's future.
Key takeaway: Strong rural communities and strong urban centres are not competing priorities. They are interconnected drivers of economic growth.

Saskatchewan’s economy isn’t split between urban and rural—it’s one interconnected system. This newsletter explores how cities and smaller communities rely on each other to drive growth, from production in rural regions to services and infrastructure in urban centres. It highlights how outdated “urban vs. rural” thinking is limiting progress, and calls for better alignment in policy, infrastructure, and investment. The takeaway: Saskatchewan’s future competitiveness depends on designing systems that connect strengths, not divide them—because when both engines work together, the whole province moves forward.
