Pacific chorus frogs and their Dahlias!

Have you ever wondered why these little guys hang out in the flower garden?

First off, they love the moisture that the petals hold! It is also a lot cooler in there than most of the surrounding area in the summer. Plus, their food loves the Dahlias too, leaving them in the perfect position for a quick snack while having a rest! 🐸✨

The best surprise when you’re out harvesting flowers!

Lunch time!

All of these goodies are either from the garden or from hOMe Grown Living Foods . We often serve a soup, veggies and dip, a grain salad and fresh greens for lunch for our retreat guests.
Keeping it as farm-to-table as it gets! 👩‍🌾

Anyone who’s visited have a favourite soup that we’ve served?

If only it was as easy as a snap! 🙃

Our amazing team (featuring Aneta) sometimes makes it feel like it’s as easy as a snap, but truthfully, making our spaces feel cozy and welcoming takes a little time! 🛏️✨

What a colour!!

Here on the farm we usually make an array of dips for our retreat guests to enjoy with crudités at lunch. Beets are always a favourite to add to the dips because of both their flavour and their incredible colour.

This video gives you a little peek at how we make our beet hummus. We also make a beet feta dip by swapping the tahini and chickpeas for feta and yoghurt.

Um... YUM!

Before and after solstice!

These two clips are only a month and a half apart but so much has changed💫

Before June 21, the daylight is still increasing, which triggers the plants to focus their energy on growing tall and leafy. Once days start to shorten after solstice, a hormonal shift occurs in the plants that redirects their sugars into flower buds, creating an abundance of flowers!💐💕

It was an immense privilege and honour to host the Salt Spring community and the Yerba Madre founding families here at Stowel Lake Farm for the very first Yerba Fest.

We are so grateful that everyone brought their A-game and good vibes. For a first-time festival, it was remarkable how smoothly everything flowed, and we feel that’s a true testament to the Salt Spring community and the beauty of the farm. We really appreciated the respect, kindness, and care that was evident throughout the celebration.

This event could not have happened without the incredible collaborative spirit of the Salt Spring Island community. Thank you to the Stowel Lake Farm team, Harley Dunn, the production team, the food vendors, and the fantastic artists who showed up with big hearts full of spirit.

And most of all, a big thank you to Tommy Van Deursen Tom Van Deursen for taking the lead in producing this event.
