And then there were the actual pieces of clothing made. So much fun to create and wear our own woven cloth in so many different forms! Amazing everyone👏👏. What an absolutely magical week. Thanks to everyone for coming and gathering on Salt Spring.

At our gathering we also did a lot of sewing. Making clothing out of our weavings. This is always a collaborative event, so people helping others, trying on, adjusting. Some people have a lot of sewing experience, some are new to sewing, but everyone can make their own clothing. It’s so amazing to see the finished works (next post)!

Last week was our Salt Spring Island gathering of weavers (SSISSA). A wonderful week with friends. This is the first of a series of posts highlighting the weaving that was done during the week and includes some weavings that people brought with them. So much exploration and creativity!

And now for something completely different! This warp is from a warp exchange last summer. Being the last minute person that I am, I’m finally getting to it before our next warp exchange coming up in a week! Fun & vibrant colours. So many different fibres in this warp, I’m embracing that and doing the same in the weft - cotton, wool, silk, cashmere, sari silk, linen! My plan is to wash and dry it and see the variable shrinkage. Then, see what it wants to become. Stay tuned.

Back to the weaving for a little close-up on my green weaving. A supplemental warp and a bit of crochet for some surface design.
💚
I’m a bit behind - as this is my May colour and I haven’t started June - but it’s my own made-up timeline, so I’ll just keep weaving away and having fun!
💚
I’m loving how this variegated yarn stands out on the green warp!
💚
Happy weaving!
