Today is a very special day for Needy Paws. đ
Iâm so excited to announce the release of Raising Sylvie: The Miracle.
This is the second book in the Raising Sylvie series, continuing the true story of one tiny kitten who faced incredible challenges and reminded me that every life deserves a chance.
Through Sylvieâs journey, I hope to inspire kindness, compassion, responsible pet care, and a love of reading. My dream is for these books to become part of the educational work of Needy Paws, helping children and families understand the importance of caring for our most vulnerable animals.
Thank you to everyone who has supported Needy Paws over the years. Whether youâve followed a rescue, shared a post, encouraged me, or read Sylvieâs story, youâve been part of this journey.

Willow and Wisp are almost 3 weeks old.
They are beginning to venture outside their bed for short periods of time.
They are very lucky kittens because they have
their cat mom who cares for them very well.
Mom cat has a home to return to once she is spayed, but Willow and wisp will be looking for a home once they are neutered.

One of the most fascinating parts of caring for kittens is how different each situation can be. When I hand-raise orphaned neonatal kittens, they learn that my hands mean safety. This time, though, they have their mum. So when I do a quick check, they want straight back to her, and she wants them too. My role is simply different right now, and watching that strong little family bond is its own kind of reward.
I got bitten by a cat while pet sitting. It came as a complete shock and reminded me how quickly things can change, even with cats that seem friendly.
Cat bites are not something to ignore. Their sharp teeth can drive bacteria deep under the skin, and infections can develop very quicklyâsometimes within hours.
I sought medical attention straight away, received a tetanus booster, and started strong antibiotics. Iâm grateful I didnât brush it off.
If youâre ever bitten by a cat:
⢠Wash the wound thoroughly with soap and water.
⢠Seek medical advice as soon as possible, especially if the bite broke the skin.
⢠Watch closely for redness, swelling, increasing pain, warmth, pus, or fever.
Working with animals is incredibly rewarding, but itâs also a reminder to respect their boundaries and remember that even the gentlest cat can react if theyâre frightened, stressed, or in pain.
Please take cat bites seriously. It could save you from a much more serious infection.
