Ronwen Williams Hits Out: “Where Was the African Unity?” After Bafana Bafana Fall 2-0 to Mexico.
South Africa captain Ronwen Williams did not hold back after Bafana Bafana’s 2-0 opening World Cup loss to Mexico.
Williams said he was stunned by the lack of support from other African fans, expecting the continent to rally behind South Africa on the global stage. Instead, he watched many turn their backing to Mexico.
The comments have ignited fierce debate online. Some fans agree that Africa should stand together at the World Cup. Others argue the split support reflects deeper tensions between South Africa and foreign nationals, saying those scars are still influencing how fans show up.
