Develop Yo'self
Helping busy parents, professionals and performers optimize their health, feel younger and live fuller!
A metabolic wall is hit when you’ve been committed to a fitness and health strategy/plan, but your results have plateaued!
You can seemingly do everything right, but still struggle at a certain point to overcome that plateau… and this is where people often double down on caloric restriction and increasing activity!
Well I’m telling you, that is rarely the strategy that will work in the long run… in fact that’s how I’ve seen people burn out, get discouraged and quit 👎.
Instead, we need to take our thriving body and health to the next level!! And how?? By giving it more resources to build some muscle and stoke that fire!!
If you struggle with this, you’re not alone :)
PSA for the day:
If you want to improve body composition at a deficit, you need to be giving your body a muscle building stimulus!!
Why? Because your muscular tissue is very expensive to keep around. More so than fat tissue. Therefore, at a deficit without a muscle building stimulus, your body wants to get rid of the most expensive thing on the budget… aka your muscle!
P.s. Please don’t chronically eat at a deficit. Get yourself a good coach that understands nourishing the body, reverse dieting and finding the goldilocks zone!!
Eating more and learning to nourish can be scary!
Especially if you’ve grown up around and participated in diet-culture and challenge-culture.
I’m super proud of the girls in the gym right now who are leading the way into the unknown, braving what sometimes feels counter-intuitive and certainly counter-culture.
While their families are all trying to diet cycle, eat less and do more, they are learning to nourish the body, getting stronger, feeling healthier.
And the results are coming 💪
If you’ve been caught in the diet and challenge eating cycles and you’re having issues adopting a new mentality around nutrition, health and fitness, please reach out and lets grow a movement towards healthier, stronger and more vibrant!
Lesson 3: Malnourishment/Malnutrition
We’re not talking starvation.
We’re talking about falling into a chronically dangerous low level of caloric intake.
Why is it dangerous?
Because if you run your body down enough, it will start redirecting energy to the more vital systems… your body was made to keep you alive… to survive… and it will do just that… even at the expense of some pretty important physiological systems.
But if you want to THRIVE, you can’t continue to get caught in the idea of eating less and doing more.
Nourish and Thrive!!
What is the Goldilocks zone??
Simply put, the Goldilocks zone is a fairly consistent caloric intake zone, where someone’s body is in a state of abundance! The body consistently has enough resources to go around and thus their metabolism stays running hot!!
You intentionally find and stay around the same higher level of consumption, occasionally bumping things up at times, and intentionally bumping things down at times, and as long as you are training, you gain muscle and lose fat!!
Stay Coachable!!
At this point, I’ve been lifting and training for 20 years… 🤯
There’s a lot that I feel like I understand in the realm of health, fitness and performance.
And despite that understanding, I consider myself a bit of a general contractor when it comes to fitness. I know a little about a lot of modalities of health and fitness. So when I meet a specialist, there is a ton I can pull away and learn from them.
And if this is true for me, I would say that it’s likely true for 99.9% of people out there. I don’t care how many trainers you’ve had, or how often you’ve worked out, or how many different modalities you think you’ve tried, come as a blank slate and be open to learning from anyone… especially if they have fruit on the tree that you’re trying to shake!
Can’t thank enough for lettingJohan coach me and help me have a completely new experience in the gym! Thanks for the PRs!
PSA: 4-week challenges didn’t fail you — they just stopped working.
Most of the people I work with aren’t beginners.
They’ve:
• Done the challenges
• Diet-cycled
• Cleaned things up
• Pushed harder when progress slowed
And honestly — those approaches often did work… for a while.
The problem is they tend to burn the candle at both ends:
More stress.
Less fuel.
Bigger deficits.
Over time, the body adapts by conserving energy, not expressing strength.
Muscle goes down.
Output drops.
Recovery suffers.
That doesn’t mean you broke your metabolism.
It means your body went into life support mode!
At some point, performance requires a different conversation.
