Not long ago we talked about soil health and what that looks like. One of the practices for keeping your soil alive is making sure you protect it with a good layer of ground cover throughout all seasons.

Here is what one of our urban homesteaders had to say;

“This was the first year I’ve covered my garden beds with a thick layer of leaves before winter settled in. With it now being safe to sow some of the hardier crops, like carrots, I pulled back the crunchy leaves on top the raised beds and to my pleasant surprise the soil was in perfect shape. I have one bed that I didn’t have enough leaves to cover and it was dry as a bone so will have a little work to do on that one to bring it back to life.”
