The time has finally come for Tyler and I to part ways with the flower farm.

We’ve been growing flowers for 5 beautiful seasons on our little farm that we started from scratch.

From the beginning, doing this was something I wanted so deeply : the passion for Hummingbee was driving my life since about 2021.

However, you may know that this last year I decided to go ahead and become a Realtor with RE/MAX... and well, I love it.

I really can’t explain how excited I am about this next stage in my career, and although I truly thought that the farm would stay my priority, it has been extremely tough to juggle the workloads and overlapping schedules.

I’ve come to terms with a brave decision, one I was scared to make..

Previous versions of me would have been heartbroken to hear this, because we worked so hard to build this beautiful place and I have built my perception of myself around this flower farming identity.

However.

I am ready to let go.

I know it’s the right step for me to preserve my passion for flowers and gardening at a scale that is sustainable and nourishing to me.

I’m really looking forward to it actually!

So don’t be too sad!

We will be putting the property up for sale in the coming weeks, it is pretty awesome, a little weird, super cheap and ready for its next amazing owner.

A few snippets from the summer garden..

Things I won’t do (anymore)

- Consignment flowers
- Providing premade bouquets to a retailer at wholesale cost
- Ordering DIY flowers for someone from the wholesaler
- Free photosessions at the farm

Things I am leaning away from (but perhaps with employee help these could be viable) :

- retail orders in general
- Subscriptions
-farmers markets
- U-pick by appointment
- Curating DIY orders for people
- Being a middleman for growers and clients

Things I am happy with in our business :

Florals and Fizz, and other on-farm offerings with preset dates

Booking the right wedding clients at a good price point

Trading and networking with other businesses using flowers when it is at my discretion and it feels good

Things I would like to create in the future for Hummingbee :

A space that can accommodate people in the rain and act as a hub

Offerings which attract people to weekly flower markets on the farm

Photography and art collections from the inspiring beauty of Hummingbee

Utilizing my flowers to build relationships as a realtor and becoming successful financially so that this flower passion is easy to afford

Having employees in 2026 to run the garden and on farm orders and events.

Essentially I am cutting out things that I can’t justify the time, energy and risk it takes to do for the money I can earn from it. Maybe this is sad - but it’s a reality in this seasonal flower business and I am always looking to make it better, and so this year I have made the transition to real estate after some hard reevaluations.

I have earned this realization for myself over years through trial and error - I love flowers but I have to do what works for me, my family and my future.

I am so Grateful
To come to the place where I have a better and better understanding of my own boundaries and how to do my passion without draining myself. I love Hummingbee more than anyone could know! Thank you in advance for understanding, and wanting the best for us! 💐

This weekend Hummingbee will be at the Red Deer Women’s Show @ the Westerner

We are selling flowers, showing off our biz and most excitingly, I am doing an interactive flower arranging demo on stage on Sunday @ 11am - I will be teaching the crowd how to make an arrangement from the garden.

Want to help do some flower farming with us?!

We’re looking for some extra hands this spring to get everything in the ground!

A few volunteers will save me days and days of doing the planting by myself - I love gardening but I am willing to share the task 😂 and the flowers that come with it!

All helpers are going to be in the books for some flowers - we can give you a u-pick session for each 3 hours you volunteer planting. Folks will also get an invitation to our first annual Hummingbee family picnic. First dibs on seed saving, and other perks. Plus you can learn a ton from what we do - I have several years of experience and lots of specialized knowledge to share, if you’re into that!

Dates will be Sunday may 18th and the following week, Sunday May 25th - if we have rain or need another day then June 1st is our backup.

Hours are 1pm-4pm (but flexible if needed)

We can provide some tools, gloves and snacks.
