Amento, in the Suffolk countryside, is a house of striking simplicity. Designed by James Gorst Architects and completed in 2024, its cruciform plan of intersecting brick walls and timber-framed quadrants has already been recognised with the RIBA Suffolk Craftsmanship Award and a RIBA East Award. The garden, designed by Charlie Hawkes, winner of a House & Garden Rising Star award in 2022 , extends the house’s axial walls into the landscape, giving each quadrant its own outlook while creating the impression of the building reaching out its arms to the meadow.
