The Bonaventure River in Gaspesie is off to a great start. Perfect river conditions and high water levels are providing ideal conditions for Atlantic salmon to make their way upstream.

It feels incredible to see the fishery showing such positive signs again. We had the chance to spend two days floating the Bonaventure, connecting with a few salmon and spotting several more throughout the river.

There’s something truly encouraging happening right now, and it’s exciting to witness. Let’s hope these positive conditions continue and that this season is a sign of great things to come for the Bonaventure and its Atlantic salmon.

Le début de saison s’annonce en force sur la rivière Bonaventure. Les conditions sont parfaites et le niveau d’eau élevé offre des conditions idéales pour permettre aux saumons atlantiques de remonter la rivière.

Ça fait vraiment du bien de voir le retour de belles montaisons. Nous avons eu la chance de passer deux journées à descendre la Bonaventure en canot, de prendre quelques saumons et d’en observer plusieurs autres tout au long de notre séjour.

Il se passe quelque chose de très encourageant en ce moment, et c’est inspirant à voir. Espérons que cette belle lancée se poursuive et que la saison continue de nous offrir d’aussi bonnes nouvelles pour la Bonaventure et son saumon atlantique.

Another epic day in Gaspésie! This time I floated down the legendary Bonaventure River with my buddy Mathieu Leonard . We fished hard through the rain all day, but unfortunately we didn’t connect with Salmo salar this time around.

No complaints when you get to spend the day on one of the most beautiful rivers in the world. The adventure continues tomorrow as we head back to the Bonaventure for antoher chance.

Une autre journée incroyable en Gaspésie! Cette fois, j’ai descendu la légendaire rivière Bonaventure en canot avec mon bon ami Mathieu Leonard.

Nous avons pêché sous la pluie toute la journée, mais malheureusement, nous n’avons pas réussi à prendre un saumon cette fois-ci.

Aucune déception quand on a la chance de passer la journée sur l’une des plus belles rivières au monde. L’aventure se poursuit demain alors que nous serons de retour sur la Bonaventure pour une autre tentative.

Merci à Cath B pour les superbes photos, ainsi qu’à la Pourvoirie Falls Gully pour son accueil chaleureux à leur magnifique pavillon.

Another great day of filming in Gaspésie for LOOP : Wild Fish / Wild Places. Today, it was an honour to share the legendary Petite Cascapédia River with Sam Breault from Gaspe Coastal , one of the few female guides in the region.

Sam is mastering the art of poling a canoe and fly fishing for Atlantic salmon. Her passion, skill, and dedication to the sport are inspiring to see, and it’s encouraging to watch more women make their mark in the guiding world. I have no doubt that she will inspire the next generation of female anglers and guides to follow their dreams and spend more time on the water.

Une autre belle journée de tournage en Gaspésie pour LOOP : Wild Fish / Wild Places. Aujourd’hui, j’ai eu l’honneur de partager la légendaire rivière Petite Cascapédia avec Sam Breault de Gaspe Coastal , l’une des rares femmes guides de la région. Sa passion, son talent et son dévouement pour ce sport sont inspirants à voir, et c’est encourageant de voir de plus en plus de femmes se tailler une place dans le monde du guidage.

Je n’ai aucun doute qu’elle inspirera la prochaine génération de pêcheuses et de guides à poursuivre leurs rêves et à passer encore plus de temps sur l’eau.

A rainy day on the Matapedia River with Mathieu Ouellet . At only 20 years old, he is probably the youngest guide I’ve ever had the pleasure of fishing with. You’re doing an amazing job, Mathieu. Your passion, dedication, and deep understanding of Atlantic salmon fly fishing are truly inspiring.

It’s motivating to see young guides who not only possess alot of knowledge, but who also appreciate the rich history of the sport and are committed to keeping its traditions alive for future generations.

And, by the way, Mathieu also landed the first Atlantic salmon on the Matapedia this season may 22nd!

Keep following your passion, Mathieu. I hope we get the chance to fish together again soon.

Une journée pluvieuse sur la rivière Matapédia en tournage pour un nouvel épisode de Wild Fish, Wild Places avec Mathieu Ouellet. À seulement 20 ans, il est probablement le plus jeune guide avec qui j’ai eu la chance de pêcher.

Tu fais un travail exceptionnel, Mathieu. Ta passion, ton dévouement et ta compréhension de la pêche au saumon atlantique à la mouche sont vraiment inspirants. C’est motivant de voir la relève aussi impliquée, des jeunes guides qui connaissent si bien les rivières, leur histoire et qui ont à cœur de faire vivre les traditions qui rendent cette pêche si unique.

En plus, Mathieu a capturé le tout premier saumon atlantique de la saison sur la Matapédia le 22 mai.

Continue de suivre ta passion, Mathieu. J’espère avoir la chance de partager une autre journée sur la rivière avec toi bientôt.
