Cristina’s first site visit with Scouten was one to remember and right up her alley. 😉

A trip up the Mount Fitzwilliam Trail to Rockingham Creek meant tackling 5.9 km of steep, technical singletrack to assess a 60-foot bridge crossing scheduled for replacement. With all materials needing to be packed in or flown in by helicopter, understanding the site access is a critical part of the project.

Fortunately, BC Parks generously loaned Cristina a Kona e-bike for the journey. The pedal-assist made a huge difference on what would otherwise have been a gruelling climb, likely involving plenty of “hike-a-bike” sections.

The ride back down was just as memorable. Rain set in, the trail turned muddy, and by the time she made it back to the trailhead, Cristina was covered head to toe in mud—but smiling the whole way.

Not every bridge replacement starts with a truck and a crane. Sometimes it starts with a bike ride into the backcountry.

Thanks to BC Parks for the loaner bike and the opportunity to work in one of British Columbia’s incredible backcountry settings. Cristina had a great time!

Deep in the heart of British Columbia, the Ancient Forest/Chun T'oh Whudujut Provincial Park is taking shape—creating a place where visitors will be able to experience, learn about, and connect with one of Canada's most remarkable ecosystems.

Scouten Engineering was proud to provide the civil engineering services for the project, including site grading, stormwater management, the water delivery system and the wastewater system that will support the new facility and its visitors for years to come.

What makes this project especially meaningful is the opportunity to work alongside Lheidli T'enneh First Nation (LTN) and a dedicated team of partners, like PRD Construction, Scott M. Kemp Architect, NRS Engineering, Thurber, Herold Engineering, Western Water, Interior Mechanical Consultants, who share a vision for celebrating and protecting this incredible landscape.

Projects like this are about more than infrastructure. They're about creating opportunities for people to learn, explore, and develop a deeper appreciation for the environment around us. The Ancient Forest is a truly special place, and we're honoured to play a role in helping tell its story.

This week we're celebrating Craig and Aidan! They share a birthday!

Craig approves the scaffold engineering. Aidan makes sure we've got the PO. One keeps the projects moving, the other makes sure we get paid for them. 😄

We're grateful for everything they do and for the experience, leadership, and support they bring to the Scouten team every day.

1,400+ km. 7 communities. 12 client meetings.

Last month, Kyle hit the road across BC. Starting in our Genelle office, travelling to Nelson → Princeton→ Kelowna → Kamloops → 100 Mile House → Williams Lake → McLeese Lake → Prince George to connect with both existing and prospective clients.

Along the way, he met with a dozen organizations, discussing upcoming projects, local infrastructure challenges, and opportunities to support communities throughout the Interior and Northern BC. He also stopped for coffee a few times, cause necessities are worth stopping for.

The trip included overnight stops in Princeton, Kelowna, and the legendary Willy's Puddle, with plenty of windshield time between meetings.

While virtual meetings are convenient, nothing replaces sitting down face-to-face, seeing communities firsthand, and building relationships that last beyond a single project.
