SVS Ranch is hosting an Equine Float Day this September with the vets from West Winds Veterinary right here at the ranch!

Regular dental care is an important part of keeping your horse healthy, especially heading into the winter months. Properly aligned teeth allow horses to chew their hay and feed more effectively, which means they can get more nutrition from what they eat and have an easier time maintaining their weight.

Wondering if your horse might need a float?

Some signs to watch for include:

• Difficulty maintaining weight or losing weight despite eating well
• Dropping partially chewed hay or feed while eating
• Chewing more slowly or seeming to struggle with hay
• Leaving long or unchewed pieces of hay behind
• Difficulty eating grain or certain feeds
• Excessive salivation
• Bad breath
• Swelling or sensitivity around the face or jaw
• Resistance or discomfort when having their head handled
• Head tossing or other changes in behaviour while eating or being ridden
• Trouble keeping food in their mouth
• A change in eating habits or suddenly becoming picky

And sometimes there are no obvious signs at all. Horses are very good at adapting to dental discomfort, so regular dental checks are important even when everything seems normal.

Getting your horse’s teeth looked at before winter can help make sure they are able to properly utilize the hay you’re feeding and get the most nutrition possible from it.

🍂 Fall is one of the most beautiful times to be at the ranch. 🐴

The trails are full of colour, the air is crisp, and it's the perfect time to get your horse settled in before winter arrives.

We'll have three boarding opportunities available this fall and winter, with move-in dates that can be arranged earlier in the season.

🍁 One private paddock for a single horse, featuring a beautiful brand-new shelter and surrounded by mature trees for natural shade, shelter, and a peaceful setting. This is a full board space with quality hay provided in a netted round bale.

🍁 One full board opening in our small herd for a horse that enjoys the company of others through the winter months. This group is also fed using netted round bales and has access to a large treed paddock, a spacious run-in shelter, and a stall when needed.

🍁 One spacious paddock at the barn that can accommodate up to three compatible horses. This paddock features a large run-in shelter, access to a stall when needed, and plenty of mature trees. It's available as either semi or full board, making it a great option for friends looking to board together or owners with multiple horses. (This paddock can be made available immediately)

Our ranch offers thoughtful, adaptable care, low-muck paddocks with gravel footing, dedicated turnout spaces, access to our arena, and over 100 acres of private forest trails. As a small, quiet boarding ranch, we pride ourselves on creating a peaceful environment where horses can thrive and owners can truly enjoy their time at the barn.

If you're looking for a place to call home this fall or winter, we'd love to show you around. Send us a message to learn more or arrange a visit. 🤎🌲🐎

A very special welcome to the newest member of SVS Ranch... meet Pixie! 💕🐴

While my daughter has been lucky enough to grow up with her wonderful 25-year-old mini, Leo, it was time for the next chapter. Leo has been the perfect first pony for lead-line rides, but now she's ready to start learning to ride more independently, and Pixie is the perfect addition to help her do just that.

I'm so excited to watch these two learn and grow together. There's something incredibly special about the bond between a little rider and their pony, and I have a feeling these two are going to make an amazing team.

Welcome home, Pixie. We can't wait for all the adventures ahead. 🤎✨🐎

Riding Lessons Are Back! 🐴

I'm so excited to be opening lessons again this summer! This year I'll be offering both a weekend lesson day and multiple evening lesson times, making it easier to find a time that works for you.

My program is designed primarily for beginner riders, with a few intermediate lesson spots also available. Whether you're a child, an adult trying horses for the first time, or someone getting back into riding after time away, I'd love to help you build confidence in and around horses. Lessons will run throughout the summer and fall until the snow arrives.

Every rider starts somewhere, and lessons are tailored to meet you where you are. We focus on creating a strong foundation through safe horsemanship, horse handling, grooming, tacking up, riding skills, and understanding horse behaviour. My goal is to help riders feel confident, capable, and comfortable every step of the way.

One thing that makes our program a little different is the setting. As a small private boarding facility, we're able to offer a quiet, private atmosphere where lessons feel relaxed and personal. Surrounded by forests, trails, and happy horses, it's a peaceful place to slow down, ask questions, and enjoy learning at your own pace.

Lesson Rates:
🐴 Ages 5& under: $35 (45-minute lesson)
🐴 Ages 6+: $40 (1-hour lesson)

👨‍👩‍👧 Sibling rates are also available, making it a great option for families wanting to learn together.

If you've been thinking about trying riding, introducing your child to horses, or getting back in the saddle after a break, I'd love to welcome you this fall. Send me a message to learn more or reserve a spot! 🍁🤎

The wild blueberries are ready! 🫐🌲

One of our favourite things about this time of year is wandering through the forest and filling a bucket with fresh wild blueberries. We don't just have a few patches here and there, we have acres of low blueberry bushes covering the forest floor.

They're easy to pick, incredibly sweet, and right now they're practically falling off the bushes.

If you're looking for the hookup... you know where to find us. 😉

We have two boarding openings becoming available soon!🐴🌲 These spaces are opening up because a few of our wonderful boarders have finished building their own paddocks and are ready to bring their horses home. We're so excited for them as they start this new chapter, and we're grateful they chose us to care for their horses along the way.❤️

✨ One paddock is available for the summer and will transition into our small herd once the horses return home from pasture this fall. This is a great fit for horses that aren't able to go out to pasture but still enjoy having companions. During the summer, they'll have a pony buddy for company (who can also be turned out), and through the winter they'll have a small herd of friends. This paddock has a large run in and a stall.

✨ Our second opening is a large private paddock partially trees which also has a run in and stall. Available as either semi or full board. We will also have one pasture space becoming available.

Our horses enjoy large, treed paddocks with gravel footing to help keep things drier and less muddy throughout the year. We also have dedicated turnout space, a riding arena, and over 100 acres of private forest trails to explore, with thoughtful, adaptable care, and a quiet, peaceful atmosphere.

If you think one of these spots might be the right fit for you and your horse, send us a message we'd be happy to answer any questions or arrange a visit. 🤎🐎

A little project we've been working on is coming together! 🐴🌱

We've fenced in a new grass flex space behind the arena. This area will give us some extra versatility around the ranch, like holding horses while we clean paddocks and tackle manure piles, short-term and overnight stays, introducing horses to limited spring grass, extra turnout, and all those situations where it's handy to have a safe place to put a horse for a few hours or a few days.

One of the things we've learned over the last couple of years is that having flexible spaces makes life a whole lot easier. Horses always seem to have their own ideas, and it's nice to have an area that can adapt right along with them.

It's not quite complete yet as it still needs a coat of stain to match the rest of the horse fencing on the house side of the road, but it's ready to start being useful.

It's been exciting to watch SVS Ranch continue to grow and evolve. Every new fence, paddock, and improvement creates more opportunities for both the horses and the people who enjoy them.

We're looking forward to seeing all the ways this space ends up being used.

A couple familiar faces are enjoying a little staycation at SVS Ranch. 🐴
Chance has a big clinic this weekend and was starting to get a little cranky with the Aggie routine, so he came out for a few days of turnout, fresh air, and a reset. Sometimes stepping away from the busy atmosphere is exactly what they need to come back relaxed and ready to work.
Hawk is back from the Agriplex as well while his mom’s schedule gets busy again and winter wraps up, so the boys are both enjoying some country downtime.
Safe to say they’ve settled back in just fine
