Why do I do this...

I grew up in Prince Albert.. a city that gets its fair share of flak, but it definitely has got good bones, good people, and it’s always been home. I remember pool nights at Marquis Billiards, hanging out at the arcade and the Candle Lake beach parties, singing our favorite songs till the sun came up. After graduating from Carlton, I moved to Kelowna and started working at a pub called Ernie's Place washing dishes. I worked my way up to cook, bartender then to manager and held that role until the place was sold a few years later.

That pub was a karaoke bar, and honestly, it shaped a huge part of who I am. I met people from every walk of life, heard their stories, and loved every minute behind the mic. Bringing friends up to belt out their favourite jams, running games like “Kamikaze Karaoke,” and adding that extra spark to everyone’s night… that was my happy place.

When I eventually moved back to Prince Albert, life took me in a different direction. I earned my electrical ticket in the mines and now manage the Health & Safety program at my company. But a few years ago, life threw me some unexpected curveballs. I had to rebuild, rethink, and rediscover who I wanted to be. In those darker moments, I found myself remembering what truly made me happy.. the energy, the connection, the fun.

With the support of real friends and the incredible community at the ANAVETS, I found my way back to that version of me.. the “new old me,” the one who loves bringing people together and creating moments they’ll remember.

So that’s the Reader’s Digest version of my story. I’m facing new challenges with purpose, positivity, and a renewed love for the craft as I step into the “Next Wave” of my life.
