My dog days of summer recap 🐾☀️
Summer looked a little like this this year 📸
Training sessions, back yard practise camping, lake days, ocean days and eventually... taking Gizmo on his first ever multi-night hiking trip in the backcountry ⛺️🥾🐶
Apart from the fun, work and chores, the underlying theme this summer was all about continuing to work with Gizmo; building confidence, skills and connection along the way.
It seems crazy that next week we see the first day of Autumn, which means shorter days (🥲). Is anyone else in summer denial phase, or are you ready for the 'ber' months?

... a stare we've all received before 🤣😆
We live in a world that often tells us our dogs need to be doing more.
More walks. More training. More adventures. More exercise.
But sometimes, what they really need is the opposite.
🤍A slower walk with time to sniff.
🤍A quiet afternoon together.
🤍An adventure without a packed schedule.
🤍The space to take in their surroundings and simply be a dog.
Slowing down gives us the opportunity to really see our dogs—to notice what they enjoy, what makes them nervous, and what they need from us.
So here’s your reminder: you don’t always have to do more.
Sometimes, the best thing you can do for your dog is simply slow down and be with them.

Why hike with your dog? 🐕🌲
For me, some of the best memories happen when you’re both a little tired, completely present, and sharing snacks with a well-earned view!
However, hiking with your dog is more than exercise. It’s a chance to:
🥾 Explore somewhere new together
🌿 Let your dog sniff, explore, and be a dog
🤝 Build trust and confidence through shared experiences
🧠 Practice communication in the real world
❤️ Strengthen the connection between you
🏔️ And, of course, enjoy the outdoors with your best friend
You don’t need a perfectly trained dog to start exploring. You just need to meet them where they’re at, build their skills gradually, and make the experience feel safe and rewarding for both of you.
