The Script Scholar
I invite you to experience the satisfaction of learning to write scripts with recognizable expertise I am my friends, my garden, my sweethearts, my parents.
I am a bit of everyone I have ever taught, everyone I have ever learned from. Hopefully, I am my daughter.

I want to thank Greg Ge**er for bringing me to the New York Institute of Technology's Canadian campus in Vancouver to give a keynote address to the faculty and staff there. What a pleasure it was. What bright, engaged people to work with. What a gorgeous building to work in. They make Vancouver proud.
What a great year. The workshops are finished now until 2025. Come January, I'll be back to work with Indigenous folks wanting to write their stories to share with the world.
I look forward to seeing some of you at the Film Festival in Whistler.
In six days I teach the Women in the Director's Chair about leadership and creating authentic characters with an arc that runs true to life and gives the plot a sense of satisfaction and growth. It's one of my favourite teaching gigs and thanks to its creator, Dr. Carol Whitman, I've been doing it for 20 years.
For those of you not lucky enough to get into the WIDC training, I'll be doing the same workshop this spring.
Thanks for all the support I've received from you.
I couldn't do it without you.

I am thrilled to announce that my first experience at teaching on line courses on my own and not through institutions such as SFU has me excited to offer another writing course end of September.
This time I am offering it to anyone interested in harnessing the power of archetype in their writing.
We will be looking at the four most often seen archetypal characters in film.
What does Hollywood want and what do movie goers want to watch!
Writers of fiction will also benefit from this workshop.
This four week course examines four archetypes the innocent, the orphan , the hero and the lover.
Stay tuned to find out more

I have just presented at a conference put on by London Arts Based Research Centre. It was a conference dedicated to Archetype and Storytelling. Couldn't have been a better match for me. So many wonderful presentations. Went all day and into the night. I highly recommend that centre. They offer many free opportunities to network with creative people.
My presentation was "In the Arms of Archetype". They've recorded them all. Once I get the url from them I'll send it out to you.

What sets Carolyn Mamchur’s course, Using Archetype to Create Authentic Characters apart?
• Hands-on Experience: You will be working with your own script, or story, not a curriculum that is generic, but one designed around your scene.
• Comprehensive Content: In the process of using your script to create authentic characters, you will have access to tools that will aid you in ALL the scripts or stories you will write from now on.
• Expert Mentoring: Dr. Carolyn Mamchur has created and will be teaching this course and giving each participant individual feedback on their scene or excerpt. Dr. Mamchur is the leading North American expert on Jungian Psychology, author of two textbooks, five chapters and over twenty published articles on archetype; emeritus professor; creator and mentor of courses on Archetype for Women in the Director’s Chair (WIDC) and Telefilm for over 23 years,.
• Access to Instrument to determine your own archetype as well as that of your main character: To further personalize your experience and your ability to find instant relevance in the method, each participant will have access to the instrument to accurately describe the archetype they are presently living and to select the archetype most useful for their main character.

As a pregnant teenager, I was worried that my baby would be born with gills and a furry back. My young husband and my practical mother thought I was going nuts. But, was I?

Hard for me to admit, to even recognize, but I was becoming anachronistic at the university where I taught for over 40 years.

Well, I was all hot to trot to start my course on Archetypes and the Writing Characters that are authentic with character arcs your readers and viewers can believe in.
Then life happens.
Tyler and I flew to Hawaii to make a final decision about building a cottage on our property on the Big Island and I came home, sad that we have decided to sell it as we are so busy at home on our sanctuary and with a very severe case of E Coli. Drinking catchment water. Still struggling to get rid of it. My s surgeon cancelled the surgery I was to get in March. Now will be in late April which makes a May 1st opening impossible.
Thank you dear WIDC graduates who were all set to take the course. So sorry to delay it. But it will happen! I am setting my goal for September now. That will also give every one a long enough time period to plan for it.
See you all Sept 4th. The house will run every Wednesday, the 4, 11, 18, 26, of Sept. and 2 and 9th of October. A fall extravaganza... lots of fun, lots of learning, lots of sharing. Start getting your scenes ready. We'll be working on your work, so pick something you want to publish or a script you want to shoot. Let's make this one step closer to the success you deserve.
Hello Dear Friends
Finally, I am ready to start teaching again. Encouraged by all the hundreds of directors I have mentored in the Women in the Director's Chair Workshop, I will offer my own courses on Jung and writing. The first will be Using Archetype to Create Character Arcs. See Script Doctor for details.
If you follow me on Script Doctor it will be fantastic. If you share this page with other folks interested in writing authentic scripts, I will be ever grateful.
Can't wait to get started.
