New Space, Same Book Magic: Welcome to Idyll Books 📚

If you spent last summer wandering around Milford, you might have stumbled upon a tiny, book-filled haven called Idyll Books. Well, Katy officially moved to a gorgeous new home earlier this year above the quaint Bloomfield Main Street staple, Green Gables, and it’s the perfect excuse for your next County day trip!

✨ 5 Cozy Rooms to Explore

It’s a bookstore, and also a treasure hunt. Katy has curated a beautiful mix of both secondhand gems and fresh, new arrivals across five distinct, cozy rooms designed for “wise and whimsical readers”

📚 The Fresh Reads Room: Packed with contemporary fiction, Canadian literature, memoirs, romance, and a tucked-away Spec Fic / Sci Fi cupboard.

📚 The County Room: Dedicated entirely to local PEC authors and rural living topics.

📚 The Great Reads Room: Where you’ll find big ideas, history, mystery, art, and more.

📚 The Wonder Room: A quiet oasis full of poetry and self-discovery topics.

📚 KidLit Corner & YA Section: Perfect for the younger (and young at heart) readers in your life.

From hot new releases to rare, vintage editions and a dedicated Cookbook Corner, you truly never know what wonderful treasure you might discover.

📍 Plan Your Visit
The next time you’re strolling down Bloomfield Main Street, look up, head inside Green Gables, and take the stairs to book heaven. Katy loves meeting fellow book lovers, so be sure to say hi! And if you’re a bookie who loves to head up all the cool spots, head across the street to our pals at The Wandering Albatross and into Picton to peruse Books & Company!

Where: 286 Bloomfield Main St, 2nd Floor (Above Green Gables)
When: Open whenever Green Gables is open! (Typically 10 AM – 5 PM most days, closed Tuesdays, and Sundays 11 AM – 4 PM)

👉 Save this reel for your next County itinerary, and tag all your book lovers!

Forget the tie this year. We know what Dad actually wants, and it’s right here in The County 🌞 The fact Father’s Day also falls on the summer solstice? It’s gonna be good 🍻

Whether Dad is a foodie, a comic book fan, or just wants a cold pint with a view, here is what’s happening over the next two weekends:

BIG FIRES 🔥 Head to Slake Brewing for a dreamy hilltop view, eight hours of live music, family-friendly activities, and incredible food & drink. The best part? Funds raised go toward our beloved local arts organization, The Department of Illumination

The Ultimate Patio Burger 🍔 Hit up the Matron Fine Beer patio for a massive RPM Bakehouse BBQ Burger lunch collab with Bryan Gilvesy. We’re talking YU Ranch beef, frizzled onions with Cheznousfarms chili powder, bacon, cheddar, wild garlic dijonnaise, and house pickles on a milk bun, served with potato salad. (Are you drooling yet?)

A Great Lobster Solstice 🦞 If Dad is a seafood lover, Parsons Brewing Company x FOUNDER | CHEF | CREATIVE | CPG | are hosting an epic feast on June 21. Think oysters, chowder, mussels, whole lobster, and cold drinks under the longest sunset of the year. P.S. Check out their feed, they’re running a giveaway for spots right now! ⚡️

PICTON COMICON 🦹‍♂️ Dust off your capes! Bring Dad and the whole family out to the Prince Edward Curling Club for a massive celebration of all things geek, sci-fi, and pop culture. David Wyldstar

There’s also live music at The Waring House Restaurant & Inn and Keint-he Winery and Vineyards, a Vintner’s Dinner Karlo Estates & a retro 80s Live Experience The Regent Theatre 💫

If you’re spoiling Dad a bit early, you can still catch an Alan Jackson Tribute concert at The Regent, live music at Karlo Estates’ Speakeasy, tons of local art exhibitions, or sneak in a last-minute tee time at The Clubhouse at PGCC ⛳️

THE COUNTY CHEAT SHEET // What you need to know when you visit this summer 🌾👇

Planning a trip soon? We love that for you. But before you pack your bags, there are a few local rules of the road (and water) you actually need to know. Save this post for your trip! 📌

🚆 Getting Here Edition
If you take VIA Rail, you’ll be dropped off outside The County (usually in Belleville or Trenton). So make sure you’ve planned each leg of your trip. (Ps. Our summer hub shows you all the tips for local transit, cab companies and FlixBus just launched a summer connector from Toronto to PEC!)

🚜 On the Road
The Orange Triangle: If you see a bright orange triangle with a red border on the back of a vehicle, that’s a slow-moving vehicle (usually a farmer out making the food we love). Do not honk. Slow down, be patient, and only pass when it is 100% safe and legal.

Flashing Green Lights: See a normal car behind you with a flashing green light in the window? That’s a Volunteer Firefighter responding to an emergency. Please safely pull over to the side of the road and let them pass.

Point A to Point B: The County is deceptively massive. It can easily take 30 to 45 minutes to get from one side to the other. Don’t jam-pack your itinerary, give yourself time to cruise.

🌊 Safety & Logistics
Water Safety: Our beaches and lakes are stunning, but the open water currents (especially around Sandbanks) can be incredibly strong. Always check feet first, grab a swimming buddy, watch your littles closely and respect the water.

“County Time” is Real: City hours don’t apply here. Shops, cafes and restaurant kitchens close a bit earlier than you might think. Always check their Google listings ahead of time and plan accordingly. There are some incredible late-night options, though!

Pre-Book Everything: Cabs, wine tours, beach days and dinner reservations require advance planning. Winging it is a high-risk strategy here!

Drop your favourite County spot or tip in the comments, and stay safe out there! 🍷✨
