This is a flea trap worn by many women in the 1700s to deal with infestations that were quite frequent in certain seasons. It was usually fashioned out of ivory or dense bone and inside would house a piece of cloth or a piece of uncured hide smeared with blood or fat and honey resin to make the fleas stick. This was worn on a ribbon and worn between the chemise and corset hanging near the lower abdomen or placed in bed at night. Invented by Franz Ernst Brückmann.
