Being a bandwagon fan is one thing. Being a bandwagon investor? That could cost you. đđ
Mike might not be from Buffalo, but heâs raising the next generation of Bills fans. And while cheering for your team is all about emotion, your investment strategy shouldnât be.
Itâs tempting to jump into whatever stock or fund had a great year. But by the time everyone is talking about it, you may have already missed the biggest gains.
The goal isnât to predict next yearâs winner. Itâs to build a portfolio that makes sense for YOUR goals and stick with a strategy you believe in, even through the losing seasons.
Because building wealth isnât about jumping on the bandwagon. Itâs about having a game plan.

10% and $10,000 might be mathematically equivalentâbut they donât always feel equivalent.
Thatâs one of the challenges with understanding your investment risk tolerance.
It can be pretty easy to check a box saying youâd be comfortable with a 10%, 20% or even 30% market decline.
But when your portfolio gets larger, those percentages turn into some pretty meaningful dollar amounts.
And seeing those dollars disappear from your accountâeven temporarilyâcan make risk feel very different.
Good financial planning isnât about eliminating market volatility. Itâs about understanding how much risk makes sense for your goals and building a plan you can stick with when markets inevitably have a bad day, month, or year.

Thereâs no shortage of opinions about what you should be doing with your money.
Save more. Invest differently. Buy a house. Donât buy a house. Use this strategy. Avoid that one.
Some of that advice may be well-intentioned. Some of it may even be good advice.
But good advice for someone else isnât automatically good advice for you.
The same goes for choosing a financial advisor. Their role shouldnât be to hand you someone elseâs version of financial success. It should be to understand what matters to you and help you make informed decisions that move your life forward.
Listen to the advice. Ask questions. Then make the choice that fits you.
How does your financial professional get paid? If youâre not sure, itâs worth asking.
Commission, fees, salaryâor a combinationâthe payment structure can influence the advice and services you receive. A good advisor should be able to explain their compensation clearly, without the financial jargon.
Understanding how theyâre paid isnât awkward. Itâs transparency around making an informed decision about who you trust with your money.

One of the biggest misconceptions in personal finance is thinking one âfinancial advisorâ can answer every money question.
In reality, different professionals specialize in different areas.
â Financial planning
â Investing
â Insurance
â Taxes
â Mortgages
â Legal planning
The trick isnât finding *someone*.
Itâs finding the *right* someone.

Not everyone who talks about money does the same job. Before you take financial advice,
understand:
who you are talking to
how they are paid
what they are qualified to do
and
whose interests they are serving.
This month we will be explaining the differences of valuable professionals to help you know who to ask which is just as important as knowing what to ask!
Many families have turned to GoFundMe during some of the hardest moments of their lives. When medical bills, lost income, and everyday expenses pile up, asking for help can be the only path forwardâand thereâs no judgment in that.
This conversation isnât about criticizing those who needed support. Itâs about helping more people avoid being in that position if they have the opportunity to plan ahead.
In Canada, our healthcare system covers many medical costs, but it doesnât replace your income if youâre unable to work. Thatâs where disability insurance and critical illness insurance can make a meaningful difference.
The goal isnât to buy a policy because of fear. Itâs to understand what would happen financially if your paycheque stopped.
If youâre not sure what your income protection gap looks like, send me a message. In about 15 minutes, we can map it out together so you can make informed decisionsâno pressure, just clarity.
The biggest shift happens when you stop trying to control everythingâand start focusing on what you actually can.
You canât control every diagnosis, every market swing, or every unexpected expense. But you can influence your habits, your mindset, your preparation, and the choices you make every day.
Your health and your finances have more in common than you might think. Small, consistent decisions today can create stronger outcomes tomorrow. Accept what you canât change. Take ownership of what you can. Thatâs where real progress begins.
What is one thing you can control today that your future self will thank you for?

Most financial anxiety comes from confusing what we can control with what we canât.
Control what you can. Accept the rest.

Happy Canada Day!
Today is a reminder that weâre lucky to call a country like this homeânot because itâs perfect, but because itâs full of opportunity, resilience, and people looking out for one another.
Whether youâre spending the day at the cottage, around the BBQ, or watching fireworks, I hope you get a chance to slow down and enjoy it.
And if this year has you thinking a little more about your future than your next long weekend, thatâs okay too. Building a financial plan is really about creating more freedom to enjoy moments like these.
Have a safe and happy Canada Day! đ
